How do you buy music albums? Or don’t you?

I’ve got Spotify, I pay for it and am happy to do so as I use it a lot.

I also have CDs that I’ve purchased in the past, all boxed up and getting dusty.

So if you still buy music, how do you do it?

If you don’t, do you feel guilty for listening to their music basically free (minus the Spotify fee)?

Do you support artists in another way? Maybe listen via Spotify and buy an expensive band T-shirt?

I’ve been watching Glastonbury all weekend and have seen they’re all selling CDs, vinyl, cassette tapes and T-shirts. I’d love a T-shirt, is that as good as supporting via purchasing a CD?

Certainly for smaller artists I buy a CD or a download.

You understand that Spotify pays for its content, right? So by paying the Spotify fee and listening to an artist you are making sure the the artist gets paid. Apparently the revenue split is about 30% Spotify 70% artists.

Apple Music, and if one of my favourite artists (usually the smaller ones) releases a new album I’ll buy the CD. I also make sure to buy tickets to any tours and merchandise there.

Vinyl

Missedmytoe · 26/06/2023 22:07

I listen to stuff on Spotify but I also go to gigs, and buy CDs and merchandise when I can.

kelsaycobbles · 26/06/2023 22:07

Buy cds form the artists direct

wildfirewonder · 26/06/2023 22:09

I mostly buy CDs, either new or secondhand. I do sporadically try streaming, but I just never get on well with it. I like perusing the shelves and choosing that way.

ChildrenOfRuin · 26/06/2023 22:16

I’ve got an Apple Music subscription.

I don’t have anything to play CDs / vinyl / cassettes on any more so I don’t see much point in buying music in those formats.

Groan. My other half has a buying music addiction.

I’ve heard this before. But artists have their hands tied, if they don’t allow their music to be on Spotify, it’s harder for them to be heard by newcomers. It’s a shockingly low amount.

I buy CDs and vinyl. Direct from the artist where possible.

I’m assuming other merchandise from them direct has the same sort of financial benefit for the artists?

Spotify pay a pittance though.

Vinyl here too. It all feels a bit more fulfilling 😂

Soulsinsync · 26/06/2023 23:21

Nope. It used to be a spare bedroom next to the familyroom aka mancave. I told him it looks like a shop and I don't mean it as a compliment. He considers it a compliment though.

We have a small house. If we had a larger home, I wouldn't care.
