Balloon police!!!

I don’t want to be the person that sucks the joy out of parties etc! But it’s just to say please please be mindful of your balloon usage.

Im not saying the odd balloon or two for parties but these huge balloon arches are a nightmare and even latex takes ages to biodegrade.

Completely agree with you.

hollyblueivy · 26/06/2023 09:07

I agree - people should have to sign a disclaimer to confirm they understand the impact

waterlego · 26/06/2023 09:08

YANBU. Ridiculous excess just for a nice Insta shot. Humans are weird.

INeedAnotherName · 26/06/2023 09:10

That actually looks vile. Like bacteria under a microscope...

I agree with you, I'm really hating on balloons now, especially if people release them.

Tidsleytiddy · 26/06/2023 09:13

Always reminds me of some sort of piles.

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 26/06/2023 09:15

I agree about helium and plastic balloons but those arches don’t require helium, I’ve done it myself without. Also our local balloon person uses biodegradable (rubber? Something about a rubber tree) balloons. So you can’t just assume people aren’t trying.

Laurdo · 26/06/2023 09:17

It's the balloon releases when someone dies that boils my blood, despite people being aware of the damage it does and the threat it poses to wildlife.

Why commemorate someone's death by having a lamb choke to death on a balloon. Plant a fucking tree or something! Or everyone at the balloon release, just donate a pound to mental health/cancer or whatever charity instead.

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 26/06/2023 09:17

YANBU though. Whatever way you cut it, displays like that are wasteful really. But so are garden sprinklers, crisp packets, packaged bread etc, tvs using up energy etc.

SnowFir · 26/06/2023 09:17

The balloons in your photo look like an out of control skin condition

You’re being conned!

We composted 'biodegradable' balloons. Here's what we found after 16 weeks

Since 1989, the balloon industry has relied on a problematic study that claimed balloons degraded “at about the same rate as oak tree leaves” after six weeks. We put it to the test.

Ughhhh I absolutely hate balloons, and these arches are naff. So many other, more environmentally friendly ways of decorating.

latex balloons can take anywhere between six months to four years to biodegrade

Trez1510 · 26/06/2023 09:27

It'd be a hard no from me to the marriage proposal on the grounds of tastelessness and tackiness of said proposal.

That's before even taking the environmental impact into account 😞

BitOutOfPractice · 26/06/2023 09:30

Is that proposal written on a gravestone?!

What an odd display.

I agree op.

Dutchesss · 26/06/2023 09:32

I couldn't agree more.

Honestly I'm shocked that in 2023 people are still doing this for a day's worth of decoration. And helium I really judge, people should know better.

But you dare to mention it and you get completely slaughtered!

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 26/06/2023 09:32

Totally agree.

That display looks like chitterling strewn around a grave yard.

DorisElward · 26/06/2023 09:34

I think I saw that one on my Fungus ID app.

ThreadExterminator · 26/06/2023 09:49

I agree. We have 'birthday bunting' that goes up in this house and looks set to last forever. It's machine washable as it's just cotton.

I've never really like balloons anyway!

Florissante · 26/06/2023 09:55

YANBU.

BelindaBears · 26/06/2023 09:56

That won’t use helium. Agree it’s naff and wasteful anyway though.

TenoringBehind · 26/06/2023 09:59

Agree

Phos · 26/06/2023 10:01

Agree. A friend of a friend did a massive balloon release on Fathers Day because she doesn't want her daughters to forget their dad, who died in the last year. When I told my friend (not the bereaved) I thought it was an awful thing to do and there were other ways I was told I had no compassion and it was lovely. Some people won't be told.

Or a graveyard. I'm getting tombstone vibes.

HellsTeethandBucketsofBlood · 26/06/2023 10:10

What is the legal definition of biodegradable though? Isn't it something outrageous like it biodegrades within 500 years? I stopped using expensive biodegradable dog poo bags when I found that out
