Question about pool floats and hotel pools?

Hi everyone, I’m just wondering if you can use pool rafts and other things in hotels swimming pools, or do you have to ask? Also, if I were to take a pool raft, how likely is it that the hotel would be able to help me to inflate it? I am on my own, and I’m visually impaired, I am just going to a hotel 10 minutes down the road from me here in Greece. They have an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool, and I would really like to use a pool float. There is a beach nearby, but as I am on my own, and would have a slight challenge with finding my way out of the sea without some thing like a radio play music to guide me, the pool is better. I am hoping to get a radio so I can leave it by my towel, so I can hear it when I’m in the sea and at least know where I am I am I know how to get back.

You would have to ask them, the hotels I’ve been to in the last couple of years have said no inflatables.

One more thing I forgot to mention, I don’t tend to use swimming pools when they are very crowded, so would go when it is less so. For obvious reasons. Also so I wouldn’t have to worry about running into people with the float.

Yes it really depends on the hotel. Some have it on the pool rules saying they're not allowed (especially if the pool is small). Re the radio I wouldn't rely on it as someone might turn it off if it was annoying them and there was seemingly noone listening to it.

What’s the name of the hotel? It’s often in their advertising somewhere or on trip advisor reviews

Hellokittymania · 25/06/2023 17:30

It’s the valis resort in Agria.

Beach is a difficult one, I really wish somebody would make a waterproof cane. even when I have gone with a friend, I’ve tried to stay in one spot just so I know where I am.

I doubt the hotel will be able to help you blow it up, but you can get a small hand pump. They are lightweight and inexpensive. Just made of plastic these days.

Could you buy a cheap cane and use it as your "water cane"? It might not last as long if it gets wet but could be useful to have.

I don't know if it's any good for you but RNIB do a plastic and fibre glass folding cane in their online shop.

Agree that you should ask the pool. For inflatables, whenever we've bought one on holiday, it's been from a nearby shop and they have inflated it for me. Though I appreciate that may be difficult for you to manage to get back to hotel. If there's a shop at the resort they might sell them?

CC4712 · 25/06/2023 17:43

Every hotel I've been to abroad has a sign saying no inflatables. Even if only a few people had one of those lilo things- it would clog up the pool and be like dodgem cars on water!

Is it just to lay on, or are you needing something to keep you afloat? If the latter, what about something more discreet like a waist band type support? Even so, I doubt they'd let an adult into a pool with a flotation device.

Have you tried asking a sight charity if they can offer advice. Is there any type of waterproof device you could take swimming, press the button and it pings which direction your bag is in, or an earpiece you put in after to hear the noise? Like a GPS type tracker back to base?

Hellokittymania · 25/06/2023 17:45

I might have to look into getting just a cane I can use for the water, yes. My new home is about 30 minutes from the beach by walking, and it’s some thing that I do really want to take advantage of during the summer. I know people are brave enough to do full year swimming, but I’m not sure if I could brave that yet. Yes, it does snow here in the winter time sometimes.

for now, I make use of the coffee shops at the beach, don’t go in the water unless it’s just to put my feet in.

CC4, that would be amazing if they had such a device. I had thought about some thing like one of those AirTags, but I don’t think there’s a waterproof version of some thing like that. I will ask though, it’s worth checking out. New technology is being developed all the time and you never know…

You can get waterproof bags for phones and other small items that go around your neck if you found something that would work but wasn't waterproof.
