Can any keen cooks tell me the difference between a blender and a processor?

So I have a ninja blender -'actually I've got a couple. And I tend to make sauces and smoothies in them. They handle ice and nuts very well

So I decided to make some protein energy balls yesterday and added in my ingredients. No liquid.

Well, within seconds I could smell burning plastic and saw a whisp of smoke so clearly the blender could not handle this!

So - is it a food processor I actually need? Does that mix ingredients that are dry?

Thanks!

Yes. The blenders absolutely need liquid unless you have purchased the specific grinder attachment.

@NeverDropYourMooncup yeah that would be why I nearly killed it off yesterday!

I've never used a food processor before as it's not something I thought I'd ever use but I'm beginning to think I need one!

I think it depends what you do with it - I use my blender to make icing sugar, and dehydrated vegetables to make veg powders or flour. But I only do small quantities.
