How could a mother do this (TW: neglect)

I've just read this this morning and cannot get my head around how she thought her daughter would still be alive. There are no gruesome details in the article but it does talk about leaving a toddler alone whilst the mother went on holiday.

The neighbour's testimony shows the mother has form but what on earth did she think was going to happen? Clearly she didn't care what would happen but how did she think she would get away with it? Surely the neighbours would ask after her daughter?

Ohio mother charged with murder after leaving baby home alone for 10 days to die

Investigators stated in an affidavit obtained Kristel Candelario was vacationing in Puerto Rico and Detroit during the time that her baby was left on her own

@Innocents4321 your post is very strange. You quite clearly excused this woman neglecting her daughter to death and then call me snippy when I call you out. You don't mention the child at all in your post. Only sympathy for the woman.

And say I 'don't really care about the baby. Projecting much? Weird.

Unlike you, most people have a strong aversion to child abuse/neglect. So yes, people aren't taking your comments well.

It's perfectly clear that the mother has MH problems and/or learning difficulties.

How is "perfectly clear"? She could just be evil.

@Innocents4321 Neglected kids don’t develop emotionally so she might not have formed an emotional connection. That’s a fact.

Oh. Well that's alright then. Jesus, get a grip and buy some compassion while you're there.

The title of the thread is “How could a mother do this?” I offered up a few of the most likely suggestions why woman usually do this, then said who knows- as clearly none of us know her so how the hell are we supposed to know. I offered no judgement at all either positive or negative.

But these circlejerk mumsnet “we live our kids sooooo much and how could anyone do this???” Threads always need a pantomime villain so the pearl clutchers can vent all their anger and rage “ you don’t care as much as us you heartless beast!!”. Because if they din’t have some to argue with and feel superior to, the thread just isn’t as satisfying 😂😂😂😂. Rational discussion or answering questions has to come second to the circle jerk’s outrage and horror 😁.

Anyway, on you go

How could the local authorities have allowed this?

@DataNotLore
(apologies if there's something in the article that answers this, but I have no intention of reading it)

in what way did they 'allow' it?
how could they have prevented it?

MissTwinklePaws · 25/06/2023 18:21

'How could a mother do this' is very clearly rhetorical @Innocents4321

And your explanation was frankly terrible anyway. You said she 'snapped' or didn't know her 1.5year of child need food and water.

If only the Neighbours has heard her cries..
But a small detached dwelling probably prevented that.

Neighbours so say often looked after the poor baby called Jailyn.

She looked such a sweet baby-
It’s appalling the cruelty that goes on behind closed doors.

@oakleaffy

USA. I haven't read the article, but i'm guess it was a trailer home, hardly terribly sound proofed.

why wasn't the baby removed from her care when she left it with the neighbour for 10 days ??
