People who've worked in McDonald's - would this be really weird/anno?

I struggle with food and binge eating - it doesn't take much to throw me off course and trigger a binge which can last weeks. I've just managed to get myself back on track after a big binge and am feeling really positive and healthy, but I am going to McDonald's for lunch today so need to be careful. My plan is to have a McPlant without the bun, and a side salad instead of fries as that will fill me up without triggering sugar/carb cravings. The question is though, would ordering without the bun be a pain for the staff (I'll be customising it anyway to remove the sauces and pickle) or should I just take the bun off when I get it?

Sorry title was supposed to say annoying

Ask them to remove the bun so you don't waste food. I'm sure it will be fine, and probably not the weirdest request they've ever had.

If MacDonalds triggers you, can you arrange to go somewhere else?

Are you avoiding meat and carbs?

McDonald's have menu options that allow for this. If you order using the screens you can make these choices without having to talk to anyone or draw attention to your preference. Your food will come in a box/container as usual.

BoohooWoohoo · 25/06/2023 09:46

If it was a hassle or too time consuming then they wouldn't allow customisation. Order what you want

Enko · 25/06/2023 09:47

They won't even blink and eye. Ive been with my friend who orders similar for other reasons and they simply take the order and move on.

Fighterofthenightman1 · 25/06/2023 09:47

You can choose 'no bun' as an option when ordering so I can't imagine they would mind too much

Or use the app which works for drive thru, eating in and takeaway.

MeinKraft · 25/06/2023 09:49

Order on the app and you can choose all these options without the worry

Hoppinggreen · 25/06/2023 09:49

It’s probably better you don’t go to McDonalds, not because of the no bun thing but because it seems to trigger you - plus it’s grim

YouNeverCanTellWithBees · 25/06/2023 09:52

I've not done it but I know lots of coeliacs order burgers without the bun so it's gluten free. You can do it on the screens.

LemonySippet · 25/06/2023 09:52

My husband is gluten free and orders with no bun all the time, it's easy to customise on the app or on the screens in the restaurant, you don't have to talk to anyone. My children are autistic and I customise everything for them. It just takes longer for them to bring your food out.

Hope you enjoy your meal 🥰

It's not McDonald's that triggers me, it's unhealthy food/being out of control. Fries in particular would be a problem, the bun not so much but removing it will make me feel like I am more in control and will keep me in a positive mindset, eating it might make me think "fuck it, I'll eat what I like" which would trigger the binge. The McPlant is because I am veggie 😊

Yeah, that's my plan, just don't want to annoy the staff if their processes mean that putting a naked burger in a box is a hassle

Thanks for all the replies saying it's totally fine! I do tend to overthink things so it really helps.

Not really any other options today but I do like McDonald's, I just need to stay in control of my eating today and removing the bun will help that.

I do this all the time for the coeliac in our family. I just order it on the app and delete the bun from the burger. It's always given to us in a cardboard salad box with a knife and fork

CindersAgain · 25/06/2023 10:02

As soon as you customise it at all (eg just no onions), it requires a whole fresh start rather than a ready prepared one, so there’s no extra hassle at all to do what you want. And they don’t get paid per burger prepared, so it doesn’t matter to them if it takes longer anyway.
As mentioned, order on the screens and just pick exactly what you like. Many people are low carb these days and no bun is an option you can just pick. It’s fine ☺️

SmallbutMighty1 · 25/06/2023 10:25

I've worked there and it's a request we've had loads before. Don't sweat it. We've had weirder! 😅

SilverCatStripes · 25/06/2023 10:29

OP, are you getting help for your eating disorder? I know sometimes it seems like it would be easier to tackle it alone, but getting support can make it easier, particularly in the long run.

I know you won’t like hearing this - but based on what you’ve said about your plans for what to order and why you are not well still.

Also , be wary of asking for advice about food on mumsnet- there is a trend towards disordered eating on here.

Letittow · 25/06/2023 10:32

No it happens a lot and they won't be bothered. A vegan burger and salad doesn't sound overly filling on its own though, are you getting support with your binge eating disorder.

Georgieporgie29 · 25/06/2023 21:17

The food isn’t pre prepared any more like it used to be. All orders are made fresh so it’s absolutely no issue amending it.
