What are all the flags at Glastonbury?

Maybe a stupid question but why are there so many flags at Glasto? Can anyone just bring them? Or are they “official” ones?

The ones that line the audiences are actual festival flags but the ones people are holding are ones they’ve bought themselves. Anyone can take one. Most festivals ban them because they’re a pain in the bum!

corlan · 24/06/2023 23:23

There seems to be quite a few advertising businesses this year. Never seen that before. I wonder if the people holding them are getting paid for it?

MadCatLady27 · 24/06/2023 23:25

They'd drive me mad if I was stuck behind one!

Also it would drive me mad holding one of the things for the duration

They've been in the crowd for as long as I have been going. (over a couple of decades ago). Just for fun. There was a Monty Panesar one I was particularly fond of one year.

N0tANOoDl3He4D · 24/06/2023 23:38

It's one of the reasons I'd never pay to go. I went in 2000 (I think), but would never do it again now. I like to be up on the right or left side of the front barrier and that's just not going to happen somewhere that size. Plus the flags. I go to gigs and festivals to see the bands, not sit in a massive crowd and wonder whose on

KnickerlessParsons · 24/06/2023 23:57

I assumed it was so that people can find each other if someone goes off to the toilet or something and/or so people can see them on TV

deedeemegadoodoo · 24/06/2023 23:58

The flags are really irritating in that they get in your way when trying to watch. Another pet hate is people sitting on shoulders. So selfish!

Yes, they’re landmarks so you can pick a spot to meet near if you get separated, go to the loo, etc

DyslexicPoster · 25/06/2023 00:01

They help you find your mates after a loo break. Mind you no need now with what three words I guess

RocketIceLollie · 25/06/2023 00:15

Just a form of attention seeking. You know the "did you see my flag?" sort of thing.

FussyPud · 25/06/2023 01:02

They’re cockwomble beacons.

This. Those pointless flags should be banned.

They’re cockwomble beacons.

Have ever tried to find your base camp pissed up in a packed festival before what three words?

How does a 1foot flag 10ft high spoilt your experience?

northernsunshine · 25/06/2023 17:54

For balance, I always liked the flags when I used to go to Glastonbury. Acts as a point of interest when giving directions to lost friends in the crowd or finding your way back to your spot after a much-needed loo break :)

Lcb123 · 25/06/2023 18:08

They’re so helpful to find your friends in the crowd. And I think people do it so they see the flag on TV . They’re too high to block your view

DappledThings · 25/06/2023 18:10

I much prefer festivals where they are banned. Having them at your tent as a marker is fine. Not as annoying as the monkey in an armchair on a stick who haunts End of the Road festival. He makes me preposterously, unreasonably angry

They’re cockwomble beacons.

What a wet insult 😂

Cakefish · 29/06/2023 17:57

Blocks the view where ever you stand including the big screens, far to many at glastonbury this year...paid to see the performers not the monkeys, and no not markers because they walk them around in the crowd

Drews · 29/06/2023 18:20

Is the Wolves football flag still there? They've been there every year since the 90s
