Using UK hair tool on US

Am I right in thinking I can't take my revlon one step or GHDS to the US and expect them to work?

Because the voltage is less than in the UK?

Can some explain l, then, if the same products in the us are as a powerful as in the UK if the voltage is half? My understanding of electricity is somewhat lacking)

So what do I do about my hair in the US!?

I use my GHDs in the US fine. Not sure if it varies by state though.

I didn't take mine as friend had been to Florida the year before and said hers didn't work.I bought cheaper dual voltage ones

ComtesseDeSpair · 24/06/2023 18:53

MK 4 and above GHDs are designed to work at both 230V (UK and Europe) and also at 110V (US). Look at the item, if it says on them somewhere: 120V-230V, you only need a socket adapter. If it only says 230V you will need a voltage converter.

I think some of the newer ones work but I found it easiest to go to a pharmacy and buy a pair of cheap US straighteners. If you're likely to go on more than one trip, it's handy to have them to throw into the case.

It's my revlon one step I am really pining for!

I took a hairdryer with me and it was so useless it wasn't worth having! a weak blow that did virtually nothing.

Some cruise ships have dual voltage in the cabins. Which company is it?

cherrypied · 24/06/2023 19:07

@cookerhood it's Princess.

a lot of small electrical products are designed to work around the world in terms of voltage, look on the plug..it will say if its just 240v or a range. If it has the range, you just need to get the plug shape converter thingy and you can get them at the airport or next day on amazon.

cherrypied · 24/06/2023 19:20

@SeaToSki unfortunately this is not the case for hair tools.

Looks like straighteners might be ok I have ghds mk IV but I love my one step the most.

My straighteners didnt work in the US. I didnt have a converter. They were absolutely useless.

Princess is likely to have schuko plugs in the cabins. So you could pack a UK to Schuko (which is what most of Europe uses) adaptor, just in case they dont have any UK ones, and it will work fine.
