Is being anti-abortion generally associated with having a strong religious faith?

I'm Jewish and I am pro-choice.

Judaism accepts the choice of abortion when it is in the best interests of the woman. It prioritises the mother's life over the potential baby's life. It strongly forbids forced abortion. There is no consensus in Judaism on abortion as a choice (ie because the woman simply does not want to be pregnant for whatever reason).

I know religious Jews who are personally against abortion as a woman's free choice, but support abortion rights in order to protect the ability to save pregnant women's lives.

Most of the people I have spoken to in RL, and all of the videos and articles I have read OL, expressing an anti-abortion view, have been either overtly Christian or implied a strong faith.

Does being anti-abortion generally correlate with having strong religious faith?

What about other religions? What are their positions on abortion, and does individuals of those faiths being anti-abortion correlate with having strong faith?

I don't think it's about having a personal religious faith as such as many religious people are pro choice, just like they're also in favour of contraception, access to reproductive healthcare and social safety nets for the vulnerable.

I suspect it's that those who are in favour of forced birth and restricting women's bodily autonomy are misogynists, who find they can use selective religious arguments to justify keeping women in their box.

If one of your religious beliefs is that God doesn’t make mistakes and that the human soul enters the body at and life begins at conception, it would follow that you are more likely to be anti-abortion. But not all religious people hold that specific belief, so there will obviously be people who are religious but also feel able to be pro-choice.

I think this is the case in the US particularly because abortion is one of their very polarised issues and pushed heavily by the group that also uses religion, conservative family values etc as a norm.

It can be associated with religion but not necessarily.

I think it’s strongly linked to being a filthy misogynist, no matter what faith these people hide behind. The one thing pro-lifers have in common is thinking of women and girls as incubators.

I think mostly in America yes it does come from religion. But these same people believe Donald Trump is their saviour. So yeah.

Anti any abortion /even early ones is usually very faithful based I find. Anti medium to late term abortions more just general personal views.
