Unless your employer has rules that say you can’t take leave during your probationary period, it’s fine. Check with your line manager.
Your mother is ridiculous saying it makes you look lazy. Your annual leave entitlement is there to be used, and it’s completely normal to take holidays.

frenchnoodle · 24/06/2023 16:30

Your posts come across like a bot.

I'm not saying you are, but they make very little sense

GoodChat · 24/06/2023 16:31

Have you got the job yet? They normally ask if you have any holidays booked.

TookTheBook · 24/06/2023 16:31

Do you understand how holidays/annual leave work OP?

darkmodeon · 24/06/2023 16:37

I would love to help but genuinely not sure what's being asked here sorry.

BobLemon · 24/06/2023 16:43

OP needs to proofread life.

GCAcademic · 24/06/2023 16:46

Given the clarity of your posts, I feel you should be concentrating on trying to pass your probation.

And the professional exams. Or are they part of the probation. Who knows!

WhatInFreshHell · 24/06/2023 16:54

I don’t see any problem with it as long as you’re not taking time off during critical busy periods (eg wouldn’t make sense if you joined a big 4 firm and want to take 3 weeks off during the busy audit season) and are being considerate of your colleagues.

It’s fine , infact employers have responsibility to make sure staff take holidays - you could have had it booked for a long time and just focus on doing well around that and passing probation

You ask to have the time off first and then book the holiday. Christmas as always a popular time for holidays and most offices are open.

AgnesX · 24/06/2023 17:28

Sounds like a good reason. I can't see anyone reasonable having a problem with it.

BarbaraofSeville · 24/06/2023 17:41

OP is this your first job? You sound unsure how holidays work. Your mum doesn't sound very clued up either.

Having a holiday after professional exams sounds like a good idea. Subject to any potential resit dates or busy times in your industry.

You also need to plan how you're going to use your holiday allowance throughout your employer's holiday year.

Like a PP says, it will annoy your line manager if you don't take your holidays as they're legally obliged to make sure you take the statutory minimum. They won't think you're lazy for taking holidays but you might need to get the dates approved depending on on it works at your place. Ask your boss or HR to explain.

Unicorn2022 · 24/06/2023 18:02

How much into the six months are you? I wouldn't after a couple of months but nearer six is no problem. Just to mention that at my firm there is a special procedure for booking time off over Christmas and it's like the hunger games some years as everyone wants the same days off. But definitely worth asking

ASGIRC · 24/06/2023 18:02

Where I am (not the UK) you cant take holiday during the first 6 months, unless it was already booked/it was mentioned during negotiations. You accrue those holiday days, but can only take them after the 6 months!
