Question for teachers...

...and anyone else that might know.

Reading a lot about teacher shortages, worrying for all who have school ages children.

I'm interested to hear, if this is impacting all schools (possibly not private sector), but im talking about non selective and selective schools.

Or, do selective schools find it easier to recruit and retain? I ask this, as I've read a lot regarding behaviours/discipline causing issues, making it difficult for teachers- so wondering if it's possible some schools don't have a huge issue (even non selective ones that are 'strict' when it comes to behaviour etc).

I appreciate there are so many other factors, including the exhausting workload and ridiculous targets. I have a teacher friend, who is having to cover three subjects, and doesn't have the foggiest about them.

On a side note, have we had teacher shortages at this level before?

I can’t speak for high schools with subject specific roles but have noticed many schools in the area this year have at least 1 if not 2 unconfirmed teachers for next session. I do however also know plenty of teachers looking for a permanent job. I keep an eye on the job ads as I feel ready for a move however they aren’t advertising due to cuts!

Thank you @Mammamia2023
I do think teachers are taken for granted. Not an easy job at all IMO.

Just wondering if teacher shortages are a serious problem in selective grammar schools?
