Warts; painful and bleeding - photos

I have two (I think), warts on same finger. One is just under the nail, so I've cut the nail as low as possible to treat. The other is at the side and base of nail.

I've had them for a while.

DD was covered in warts a few years ago; filiform and flat warts on her face (one under eye was very prominent, like a tree), over her hands, arm and legs. GP saw it, prescribed Salactol, except for face (which DH used freeze spray on and worked, did nothing for hand warts though). They just disappeared. Point being, I touched hers and never caught one.

I've been using Bazuka Extra Strength, but it just causes soreness and cracks, so I'm forced to stop for a while.

I've used it the last couple of nights, but I peeled off the white layer today, from the one under the nail, and it started bleeding. I covered it, but it keeps bleeding when wet.

I'm too scared to peel off the bit under, but it's incredibly sore

Is there anything else I can do, or just keep going?

(Aplogies for typos, using middle finger, which is still rubbish after a mallet injury and its my index finger that's warty).

See a doctor for a referral to a dermatologist, and leave it alone in the meantime.

Dermatologist, really?

It's incredibly hard to see our GP, even when I had an asthma attack, which they called an ambulance for when they realised it was bad, so not sure they'd see me for warts.

I asked for DD to see a dermatologist when her skin was bad (as well as warts she had eczema/psoriasis all over her body), but the dermatologist refused to see her,

My dd had really stubborn warts by her fingernails for ages. I bought something called ‘wart away’ from Holland & Barret and that did work, though it took a few applications (it’s supposed to only take one).

Although I think it would really hurt to put it on cracked bleeding skin… I would stop the Bazuka and use antiseptic and plasters while the bleeding bits heal. Then try ‘wart away’.

@Sotired22 thank you. I've looked at Holland and Barrett, but it's out of stock online, if I get a chance next week, I'll pop in and see if they have some in store.

I don't want to worry you but I think you need a dermatologist to check that out.

Eggyhair · 23/06/2023 20:49

@whatisforteamum can I ask why you say that? Does it look infected, or not a wart?

There isn't a major drama about being referred to a dermatologist, @Eggyhair.
I was, as I had 40+ verrucas on one foot at one point. It's not necessarily a bad thing, just to get a definitive diagnosis rather than trying to treat something when you don't really know what it is.
By the time I got to see the dermatologist, they'd gone, but I went anyway just to make sure.

Eggyhair · 23/06/2023 23:09

@vipersnest1 thank you, that makes sense. Glad yours cleared up Flowers

As well as the advice above we had success applying banana skin to warts and verrucas. No downside in trying except a bit weird and messy

Notsandwiches · 23/06/2023 23:21

You need a supplement containing caprylic acid. I took capsules to help with my sugar addiction and noticed after about 2 weeks that several warts I had on my hands had reabsorbed and a 20+ year old verrucae had disappeared. Incredible stuff.

whatisforteamum · 24/06/2023 06:50

I had an unusual patch on my back and a skin tag and so the gp took photos on my mobile sent them to dermatologist who confirmed the were benign.
I just think anything bleeding or cracked skin needs expert advise.Or a pharmacist could help.
