Wart frozen on nose?

LetMeJustCheckMyCitrusPocket · 23/06/2023 08:56

I saw my GP yesterday about a lump I've had near the bridge of my nose for some months. He's said it's a wart and to come back today for him to freeze it off.

I know nothing about warts and have never had any before so I agreed, however since coming home and googling etc I'm really concerned as it seems to be very painful and also only about 50% chance of actually working, so I'm tempted to postpone.

Had anyone else had warts frozen off, particularly on their face? Did it work or just come back again?

I think if it was on my hand or arm I'd feel differently but it's right on top of my nose.

Also how worried should I be about it spreading elsewhere or to other family members? I'm having some possible immune issues investigated at the moment so don't know if it's linked to that.

Thank you for any advice or experience!

I had a wart frozen off of my ear years ago - it did hurt, it’s essentially a burn so it felt a bit like having a cigarette stubbed out in my ear but it was momentary and then a day or two of soreness but nothing major. And the wart never came back

I say this as a bit of a fanny who doesn’t have a massive pain tolerance

Thanks for replying. Good to know it wasn't too painful. Can you remember if it blistered etc afterwards? I'm just concerned that doing this will make things worse in the most obvious place on my face, but equally don't want to have it permanently!

It didn’t blister, I think it went brown/black and dry before it came off

it will be obvious, there is no getting away from it and I know it’s hard when it’s on your face - I had to have some pre cancerous cells treated on my face and that treatment went on for a month and they looked like big burnt scabs :/ ……I’ve also recently had two moles lasered off my face which left quite Lego marks for a while but no one ever said anything on either occasion and I just styled it out .

If it were me I’d rather have a scab for a week or so than a wart for years - the laser moles were purely cosmetic and I’d definitely do it again

I’ve realised I sound like an absolute beauty in this post - warts, moles, scabs! I’ve got it all 😂😂

You're absolutely right, deep down I think I should do it, have lots going on over the next couple of weeks though so maybe that's influencing my decision today too. And it's true about styling it out, I think I need to work on that one!

It is a very common dermatological procedure. With age people get these 'senile warts', or age spots. It's better to have them removed regularly ( once a year) when they appear then wait and have lots of them and need multiple ones burned off. You can wait a few weeks if you have major social events coming up, no hurry. Also it is better to do this in autumn or winter because you should stay out of the sun. But do have it done soon. They are quite ugly.

Oh thank you, I wasn't aware about having to particularly stay out of the sun but I guess that makes sense. Perhaps I should try and delay until September then, so long as it doesn't get much bigger 😬

@LetMeJustCheckMyCitrusPocket As long as you are sure it isn't a cancerous growth you can wait. If won't grow that fast. Have a lovely summer.
