Has anyone ever moved their family from a city to the countryside?

Help!!
We're currently in London and have had a plan to move and hopefully in the next few years open our own campsite, we're keen campers ourselves and its been a dream we've had and talked about for 4 years.
I'm originally from a tiny village in a rural area and rest of the family all love that lifestyle as well.

We weren't planning on moving for about another 6 months but an opportunity has come up at work for me to transfer and we've found 3 places were viewing this weekend with land and more space for the kids, and bedrooms of their own.

The job will be slightly different to what I'm doing now, but I'm confident I'll be alright doing that ( i think!) and husband had 6 months left of a qualification he's doing so would travel back to London for 2 days until that's done then he can hopefully get a job nearer to where we live.

I just feel with all the change I'm starting to wonder if we're doing the right thing, but I also know if we don't take the chance it will definitely never happen!

Can anyone give me nice stories, or a pep talk or something.

You’ll regret it if you don’t take this opportunity - always thinking ‘what if’.

I wish you all the best of luck in your new venture - grab it with both hands.

we moved from london to the south coast. there are pros and cons with most things, but we wouldnt move back to london.

just because you like camping its not going to make running a campsite great (though clearly you will understand what people want). Having good customer service and DIY skills i would have thought is more important. But if you are working then at least you arent reliant on this for an income

It sounds lovely. You can always visit the city, countryside and the new role sounds great!

London to Wales.

We did keep property in London and elsewhere for a bit but have now sold them.

Moving to Wales has been an excellent decision and the only drawback is that there are only a few Waitrose's and the nearest one is an approximate 80 mile round trip.

The beaches, countryside and woods are worth it!

Thank you everyone.

Dreamingofsun - were both keen DIYers and have worked in customer service and with clients.

We've done extensive research into the running of it, and it's a smaller site we're planning, not a huge venture. Thanks for your comments.

Not London, but we moved from Edin burgh to a small village in southwest Scotland when DD was a year old. It was the best thing we ever did. There was a lovely playgroup, and the local school, although small, is fantastic. We have good friends in the village, and family, so we are very lucky. DD can play outside and be perfectly safe. The only drawback would be having to drive bloody everywhere. Commuting for work takes longer, as neither of us has a job where we can work from home. However, for the vast improvement to our quality of life, its a small price to pay.

Yes. From Brockley south London to very isolated rural home is East Sussex. London just over an hour by train if you choose to go there (I wouldn't) . Kids went to a village primary and secondary in nearest town. We are involved in our village sports clubs, Hort Cul. Society. Village fete and bonfire societies. Its extremely social. Lots of dinner parties and bbqs with friends and neighbours.

Best choice we ever made.
