Can I keep my bra on for an ECG?

I'm having an ECG this afternoon and it's just occurred to me that I might have to remove my bra. It's a female nurse at my GP practice who's lovely so it's not the end of the world but I'd rather be prepared. Does it make a difference if it's a non-wired bra?

I had to take my non-wired bra off.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 21/06/2023 11:02

In my experience it varies - some do it around the bra but it seems to be easier to get the right placement if you're willing to take the bra off. Under"wire" is mostly plastic nowadays but personally I'd wear a non underwired bra and be prepared to take it off.

I kept mine on at the GP and in hospital. Wear trousers though not a dress!

I've had three ECGs recently and never had to take bra off

HolyFire · 21/06/2023 11:03

I didn’t have one on when I had mine. I apologised to the nurse and she said lots of women don’t wear a bra these days.

I am particularly large of chest so there's definitely no chance of me turning up braless! For some reason I'd just assumed I'd be ok with wearing a stretchy vest that could be pulled down but I can see that's definitely not an option. I'll dig out one of my very unflattering non-wired bras.

There may be much handling of naked boobs to place the things.

I have had a few of these and they usually tick one of the sticky things juts under the bad of my bra. I have never had to take it off, but I have been asked to undo it to make it looser.

Take a scarf that you can lie over your breast juts in case

gooddayturnedshit · 21/06/2023 11:40

Why worry about taking a scarf to cover up? Or worry about any of it actually? They're just boobs and she'll have seen her fair share I imagine.

bananaboats · 21/06/2023 11:42

I had to take mine off but I didn't question it too be honest. Female nurse and as pp said they've seen it all before!

Nobody was being worried ffs.

Stop trying to act as if it's wrong for a woman to want to keep her breasts covered. It doesn't matter how many tits the nurse has seen, it's about the patient, and if they want to cover up they absolutely can. And without shame.

I’ll cope perfectly fine if I have to take my bra off but I’d just rather know in advance. Some patients don’t feel comfortable being semi naked so finding ways to help them relax is perfect understandable. The same nurse did my smear 3 weeks ago and I wasn’t bothered at all because I knew what to expect. However I still like the fact they give you a paper towel to cover you up.

I couldn’t wear my wired bra. It wasn’t the bra that was the problem but the wire. This was last month.

EssexGurl · 21/06/2023 11:58

I don’t have no any non wired bras so wore a crop top instead.

Sorry OP, I wasn't trying to suggest that you wouldn't cope or that there's anything whatsoever wrong with preferring to stay clothed given the option.
It was just the mad suggestion to take a scarf with you that made me Confused I'd be more embarrassed to pull a scarf out of my bag and hide behind it than I would be to just let my breasts hang freely.

I hope the exam goes well for you.

You should actually be more embarrassed at your attempts to shame women who may want to cover their skin. What a nasty individual.
