Board game for 1 player recommendation

I’m looking for a gift for someone who lives on their own. Simone mentioned they do board games for 1 player. Has anyone played any and do they have recommendations? Thanks

i’ve got this one, I think you could play it alone?

perhaps an escape room? We have played a few ‘Exit’ ones and they are really good.

What sort of things do they enjoy, and what is your budget? Have they played many boardgames before? Some that I might recommend are a bit complex and take a long while to play...

If you fancy trying out various games look at boardgamearena.com (or very similar address). They've got a fair few one player games, so you could buy them in physical form if you like them. There are also multiplayer /play with friends options. Haven't used it in a while but it's good fun.

The ThinkFun and Happy Puzzle Company brands maybe worth looking at. My son has rush hour, dog crimes and genius square

Something like Cludo for one player would be good. They also like HP and Disney.

Something that could be played in around an hour and medium difficulty.

Have a look at r/soloboardgaming on Reddit. If you click on the subreddit description, you'll find some resources: links to lists of recommended games, etc.

It's a big rabbit hole to go down! 🐰

Hmmm. If they also like detective stories, then a variant on the "escape room" boxes might be any of the "Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective" series. The problem is that you can only solve each case once, but they're incredibly well done and most boxes contain 10 cases. Longer than an hour but easy to pause. I'll continue to think, though! (Be warned; many games you'll find on boardgaming sites are big, expensive, complex, and long.)

IZZI puzzle - easy to play on your own or with others

Eyesopenwideawake · 20/06/2023 22:20

Do they have access to an iPad? Backgammon, Scrabble, Magic jigsaws (you can make jigsaws of your photos) and WordSearch are all brilliant games that I play far too much.

EnthENd · 20/06/2023 22:23

I'll second Rush Hour and similar puzzles.

I have Solitaire Chess by Thinkfun. If they know how to play chess that's a good one.

Of course there's plenty of options for remote multiplayer games too.

WashAsDelicates · 20/06/2023 22:56

Not exactly traditional board games, but Rush Hour and Tantrix are both very good. Rush Hour is solo. Tantrix can be played by any number of people, from solo up, and has a large variety of games.
