I'm in my late 20s and have always had painful periods with intense lower back pain that radiates to my hips and down to my knees at times. I contacted my GP during COVID and after a telephone appointment they prescribed me mefenamic acid (a strong NSAID). I take the maximum amount of mefenamic acid and paracetamol for 3 days every period. It does help with the pain a lot.
However, I feel really unwell on my period still. My stomach hurts from the tablets despite eating when I take them, I feel nauseous and like every ounce of energy has left my body. I have had blood tests and I'm not anaemic. It means 2 days a month are effectively a write off for me.
My periods are regular and not particularly heavy, but they are 35-36 days apart each month which seems like a lot. I have had acne on my chin since I was around 23 which antibiotics and Differin hasn't helped with. Over the past few years I've also gone from having a couple of dark hairs on my chin I need to pluck to quite a few on my chin and jaw, which I'm incredibly embarrassed about and don't think I could mention to the GP.
I'm also overweight with a health condition that increases my risk of blood clots so I can't go on the pill, so I feel like there is nothing the GP can do?
