Cab anyone recommend one of these, please, for helping rid shoes and sandals of athlete's foot type fungus?! (I know!!)

Interested. Am sceptical, however, as how would the UV get at the inside of the toebox of closed shoes?

FWIW I spray inside my footwear with athlete's foot spray.

The foot clinic told my dh to make sure he turned his socks inside out before washing, wash on a 60 wash and add a dose of anti bac laundry stuff. Spray his shoes every day and use lamisil every day. He’s been free from athletes foot for a year now

I smear the insides of them with hand sanitiser.

I listened to a podcast about these the other day. It's quite likely that they don't do much because the UV won't get to the bacteria inside the shoes.

Do UV sterilisers really clean your belongings by shining a light over them?

Why on EARTH do you need your shoes to be sterile?!?!?!

AlfietheSchnauzer · 19/06/2023 21:54

UV light won’t kill fungus and getting rid of fungus (via an anti fungal powder) doesn't mean you need them to be sterile

BeverlyBrook · 19/06/2023 22:17

Leave them out in the sun?
Wear every other day.
Super wash socks.
Powder in socks and shoes each time they are worn. Only way to keep the dreaded athletes foot at bay

Thanks everyone for contributions.

For various reasons it isn't practical to leave shoes out in the sun everyday, unfortunately. We've tried the usual stuff but reinfection seems to be the issue and despite washing socks on a hot wash and using lamisil/daktarin etc, it seems to come back, usually in the warmer months, so I was after something I could use for leather sandals, mainly, where the powder/spray might not be so workable.

@AlfietheSchnauzer have you done much research into UV light and its effects on fungus?

@BarbaraofSeville the airfryer episode wasn't v enlightening but I'll give that one a go 😂 ta!
