Is there such a thing as musical instrument lessons for adults?

I would feel a bit silly going along to one, a quick google says there are a few but do they expect you usually to have a basic understanding? I haven’t learned since school but I’d love to pick up the guitar and I’m not very good at teaching myself via YouTube! Has anyone been to an in person one and would you suggest one to one or group? Thanks

I started piano lessons last year at 45 years old. I had played another instrument as a child, but never got very far, and always REALLY wanted to play the piano. My teacher teaches both children and adults. He's excellent and I've come so far in just a few months.

I'd love to learn but years ago I asked and was shut down because I didn't own one
Why would I buy a piano I can't play.. where would I keep it

Go for it, you will get lots of pleasure, us it's good for the brain! Teachers often like adult pupils as they can come during the day or later in the evening than children want to, they are often more committed.

I went on 'Tutorful' during lockdown, and found a piano teacher I'm still with. Half an hour a week, online lessons, Grade 3 exam shortly. Might be worth seeing if you can find someone on there to suit you.

@superplumb, I too wanted to play as a child but was shut down. So I bought the piano, despite never having played. I bought mine on Facebook market place - you can get a lot of bad pianos there, but I knew exactly what I wanted (a Yamaha or Cristofori upright, less than ten years old) - and it wasn't that much at all. In fact, paying to have it moved cost almost as much as the piano. And I only needed a bit of wall space.
I play it every day now and absolutely love it. You should go for it!

Absolutely. My friend is a trad fiddler and teaches very popular all-adult classes. The music school DS has guitar lessons at has mixed and adult classes for a variety of instruments. I also know someone in her fifties who is taking voice lessons with no previous singing experience.
