I'm in the UK but mine is the blackbird. What's yours? Any Non-UK i'll gladly Google to hear!

Thanks 😊

Lol came on to say blackbird! I love curlew and lapwing but wouldn't count it as a song.

elQuintoConyo · 18/06/2023 22:07

Swallows - or swifts? I always get them mixed up! I'm in Spain, they're circling now, great clouds of them!

Also yellowhammer 'little piece of bread with no CHEESE' !

And the Blackbird. And the jackdaw... And crows! Remind me of my old school.

madamsapple · 18/06/2023 22:07

Not sure which, but we have one outside our window that seems to be saying ‘The Arsenal’. Not great as a Spurs supporter

FlatArthur · 18/06/2023 22:12

Coal tit. So joyous, always makes me smile.

HRTeatime · 18/06/2023 22:13

Skylark. Love most bird song, but the skylark always takes me up into the clouds with him when he sings.

squashyhat · 18/06/2023 22:23

Nightingale - only heard one a few times.
Cuckoo - increasingly rare but so lovely to hear as a herald of summer
Swifts - screaming acrobats Wink
Woodlark - repeats phrases like a Songthrush

Iamacatslave · 18/06/2023 22:29

Robin.

PickledMuffin · 18/06/2023 23:09

Flamingo

The blackbirds by me sing ‘Barbie Girl’, ‘Go Compare’ (complete with operatic trill) and the beginning of Mendelssohn’s Fourth Symphony.

They make me smile and groan in equal measure.

Puddock1 · 18/06/2023 23:39

The songthrush is beautiful 🎶

Blamethecat57 · 18/06/2023 23:43

I love a blackbird .
But when I hear a wren really singing...that's my favourite.

Catsmere · 18/06/2023 23:56

The Australian magpie, the one birdsong I would miss if I lived elsewhere.

Australian magpie singing

An Australian magpie singing a very small part of their repertoire. The full song is unbelievable.

In my garden I love listening to the blackbird, the song thrush, the wren (which is so much louder than its size would suggest) and also the house martins, who nest outside my bedroom window and chatter away amongst themselves.

U2HasTheEdge · 19/06/2023 00:11

NightJars.

We go somewhere to listen to them one evening every summer. When they are all out doing their call it is specular. The frog sounds and clapping their wings, amazing.

You have to get the right time of year, though.

Underminer · 19/06/2023 00:38

Agree re Nightjars. Only found out what they were from the Merlin app.

Also the blackbird’s song is beautiful.

i’d urge anyone to download the Merlin app and get out there listening!

Beetlewings · 19/06/2023 08:30

Goldfinch

RosesAndHellebores · 19/06/2023 08:33

@Mygazpachoistoocold it's the call of a mistlethrush; our owl is a tawny.
Thank you so much. I shall enjoy the app hugely. Flowers

For me it depends on the time of year as the birdsongs associate with change (for me at least).

Now it is summer, I love the curlews and skylarks, Spring brings the cuckoos and wakes up the garden birds, Autumn is when I seem to hear the most owls and the migratory birds.

The Merlin app is great and this site is also useful:

Skylark, I was lucky enough to have one in the field behind my garden last summer, close enough to see and singing very loudly on more than one occasion. I think I heard a distant song from one earlier this week, so I am crossing fingers that there’s one about and I will hear it soon.

After many years of enjoying hearing the spring call of the cuckoo, I haven’t heard a cuckoo at all this year.

Oh I'm so pleased the app was useful. I haven't heard our owl recently, but as soon as I do I'll be recording it!
