3.5 year old suddenly wetting himself again after switching from potty to toilet seat

Is this normal? He’s not had a single accident in months and then started using the toilet at nursery instead of his potty (he was very specific about which potty he would use up until then and would t consider anything else). He used it all day at nursery then switched to the toilet (with a seat) at home. He was saying he was a bit scared still but persisted and seemed to have cracked it.

then the last three days he’s wet himself multiple times. He’s not drinking as much (he’s a nightmare for this) so I don’t know if his bladder just isn’t feeling full enough? He’s also a bit snotty so maybe under the weather but seems fine.

I’ve asked him if he’s too busy/doesn’t realise and he just says I don’t know but also says he knew the “wee was coming”.

I don’t know whether to switch back to the potty at home as he’s said today he doesn’t like the toilet and asked for the potty back.

is this a usual type of regression? He’s had no other big changes or upheaval aside from switching to the toilet seat, but he has suddenly come on leaps and bounds with his skills recently.

im at my wits end as I don’t know the best way to deal with it either.

I would listen to him and switch back to the potty yes.

our DS sound similar and he often learns to do something, backs off from it for a while, then comes back to it.

he was the same potty training. Of course he decided he was REALLY done with nappies the day we set off for a holiday full of long car drives 😬

we’re just transitioning to the loo seat now. He’s learned enough he can manage when we go away this summer (any potty other than the one we have at home is now too small for him) and for about a week he did all his poos on the loo. but he’s gone back to his potty for them, and I’d rather wait than pressure him.

maybe your DS found the toilet difficult sometime?

ours can wee over or through the loo seat gaps quite easily and get his clothes wet. It’s that reason he prefers the potty we have with it’s nice high front.

I think he finds it uncomfortable as our toilet is quite high and his legs can’t quite reach his step so he’s wiggling around a lot on it. I’ll go back to the potty at home for a bit and give him a choice of both. I think I’ll also start asking him if he needs to go again - he hasn’t needed this for a while but he seems to be getting quite distracted and putting off going and then having an accident so I think that’s a factor too.

And n asking if he needs to go. Fine if it works.

my DS is a stubborn sort and if I ask
’do you need a wee?’

he’ll say no.

if I say ‘you let me know when you need a wee’ he’s does. Though he’s often dancing front foot to foot to keep it in before he does!
