civil service interview

I have been shortlisted for an AO grade job role as a Public Counter Passport Officer, and I have been informed that during the interview, I will be asked questions related to four key behaviors: making effective decisions, working together, delivering at pace, and managing a quality service.
I have already answered the question about making effective decisions in my application, keeping my response within the required 250-word limit. However, I'm uncertain about the types of questions I can expect for the remaining behaviors. I want to be fully prepared and give the best possible answers during my interview.
If anyone has any experience or insights related to this job role or similar positions, I would greatly appreciate your advice. What type of questions should I anticipate for the behaviors of working together, delivering at pace, and managing a quality service? Are there any specific examples or scenarios that could help me illustrate my skills and competencies in these areas?

Have examples for each of the competencies.
what the situation was
what was expected of you
what you did
what the outcome was
what you could have done differently/better - what you learnt

Have you got this? www.gov.uk/government/publications/success-profiles

It will be questions like, tell me about a time you've made a decision that affected someone else (or something like that, sorry, that's a bland example- coming up with these on the hoof on a Sunday morning!).
You'll need to say what the decision was, the effect on others, the thought process you went through, the decision and outcome.

Others might me something like tell me about a time you've worked with people that you didn't get on with/how you've ensured you delivered a quality service/built working relationships etc.
The answers needs to be experience/evidence based. Always talk about you and your role/part, not 'we'. Don't be afraid to ask them to repeat the question or ask for time to think.

If you also have strength questions it will need you initial (and body language) reaction to questions like - how would you feel if you were asked to help a colleague with their work?

Have you used chat gtp? It’s great for this. Tell it the grade and the behaviours and it’ll give you a whole bunch of example questions

Agree they will likely want examples of :

  • teamwork skills, working together
  • delivering in time, ensuring key targets are met
  • quality service, making sure things are done right
And all under great pressure.

Suspect you may also get some kind of "things went SNAFU, how I dealt with that"

Have a couple of simple examples for each of these. Very short & action focused.

Remember its Civil Service. You are not expected to solve everything alone. "I would ask my senior for advice" is frequently a good answer.

Good luck!

I’m a SEO. Use STARR - Situation, Task, Action, Result, Reflection. Situation and task are the least important so don’t spend ages on these.

Only talk about what you did I.e. “I” not “We”.

Clearly explain what you did and why - always include why. Use some of the language in the question in your answer, if you can.

Best of luck.

Also, experiences don't just have to be work based, can be from raising family, voluntary work, church, education...

But keep em short, try not to ramble. It's fine to ask for questions again.

Bring or ask for a big glass of water (no fizzy or you start burping) & ask for a refill if you need.

Be assured they need people in this role so they WANT you to succeed.
