Universal credit

Good evening.
Hopefully someone can help as we're told different things constantly!
We've three children at home, eldest will be 18 in August and we've 2 younger boys who were born 10/8/16 and 12/11/18.
Our eldest is thinking of leaving college and talk of moving in with his gf once he turns 18, currently on our universal credit claim, he and the 6 year old both are the child element.
Both my partner and I work 30+ hours a week.
If he were to leave education, does our youngest move into the second child element spot of universal credit or not because he's born after 2017, we've been told yes he would as its 2 children maximum and we've also been told no he wouldn't because of limit and born after 2017!
Thabks for any answers :)

Yes once your eldest is off the claim your youngest can move onto the claim. Think of it like a conveyor belt with 2 spaces, when one hops off another can hop on.

And also as long as your second was born before April 2017 ( which he was) you should get the higher child element for him once your eldest drops off the claim and then the lower child element for your youngest.

Thankyou, that's what we thought and have been told, but an advisor at uc told us we would not get second child element, would lose child benefit which we knew that bit and also lose the third bedroom but so in theory losing £600 ish a month which is nuts!
I'm aware we would lose the bedroom thing as our two youngest are both boys

The advisors on the phone lines don't know much about how UC works really, they often give wrong information. Yes the only change would be that you would only get the 2 bedroom housing allowance if private renting.
