Nice places to visit in Wales, budget!

The DC want to go to Wales. (They also want to go to Africa but I'm on a budget 🤣)

I would be driving, 4 - 5 hours I think, and possibly campibg unless I can find super cheap accommodation.

Me and 2 young DC. Quite outdoorsy, interested in history, love the beach. Would LOVE to see a waterfall. Where we live is very flat.

Can anyone make any suggestions?

There's a waterfall on the beach at Tresaith. That whole coastline is gorgeous. Llamgrannog, Poppit sands and New Quay are all my faves. Get googling West Wales.

I was going to suggest Tresaith! Mwnt is also in the area and is lovely. New Quay is a small beach and gets very busy in summer, but is a lovely place - you can also go out on a boat trip from there if budget allows. There's some interesting outdoor places inland as well - look up Cors Caron.

Or you could go north - Harlech has an amazing beach which goes on for miles, there's the steam trains at Porthmadog (pricey but then again nothing stops you just going to see them!) and the Aberglaslyn pass has a great place to go and play/ paddle in the river, with the bonus of possibly seeing a steam train! There's good waterfalls up near Blaenau Ffestiniog.

I'd second Tenby / Saundersfoot as a great place to visit with lots of activities. This site is on the coastal path and walking distance to Saundersfoot village

trevaynefarm.co.uk/

Would also second basing yourself on Cardiff and doing day trips to Barry Island or Rest Bay beaches

Yes, the coast near st David's is beautiful ❤️

Llanbedrog is a lovely beach, it has a row of brightly coloured beach huts and is so pretty. Waterfalls at Pistyll Rhaeadr, Betwys y Coed, Aber Falls or Devils Bridge. If you are all reasonably fit, you can walk the first bit of the Watkin path on Snowdon and reach some waterfalls with pools that are safe to swim in

Campsite with waterfall and paddling stream on site, near beautiful beaches in north Wales

Just came back from a day in Tenby yesterday, I’d never been before! I was expecting it to be like Newquay in Cornwall but it was wayyyyy nicer than that! The town itself was lovely as were the beaches. As others have said, the Gower is stunning and well worth a visit. I don’t live too far from the Four Waterfalls in the Beacons, that’s a great day out. Good on a hot day too as there’s plenty of shade.

@CountingToThree that sire looks great! Thank you.

So many lovely options. I'm going to narrow it down by limiting driving time to a maximum of 5hours I think. We'd need to stop somewhere midway for an hour for the DC (and me!).

The youth hostel idea is a good one too. We all like camping bit I worry about the weather

I agree with a previous poster about Youth hostels. It saves you taking a tent and most of them have family rooms and are cheaper than hotels. There's a lovely one in Manorbier in West Wales near the castle and the beach.

ThePoshUns · 18/06/2023 21:31

Yes the Manorbier one is really funky and near gorgeous beaches

Tenby has amazing beaches. Barry Island has a great beach. Cosmeston in Penarth is lovely with a medieval village to look round. There is the 4 waterfalls walk in the breacon beacons too.

And you could go to Caldey island

If you're in the English Heritage, you can use it for assorted castles etc there

I stayed in a travel lodge which wasn't too expensive but it wasn't school hols
