Absolutely nothing to tell you about what's in the room or the history of the rooms etc. Yes that have guided, but if they are already chatting or it's busy you don't really get a look in.

Is it cos they want you to buy the expensive guide book? 😡

Toddlerteaplease · 17/06/2023 17:12

Probably!

Wasn't it a covid thing? I seem to remember initially they were removed to avoid spreading covid. I don't now what the reasoning is now.

They were there in Osterley House when I went on Wednesday. Brief, but there.

I wondered that today, and looking at other people’s comments on the comment cards at the end I wasn’t the only one. If it’s purely to get people to buy the overpriced guides, then I would say it’s not going to work.

I've been to Lanhydrock, Cotehele and Buckland Abbey this year. Lots of information booklets in all the rooms and fabulous volunteer guides who were very knowledgeable and friendly, brilliant and engaging with my 11 year old son too.

It will be some ridiculous new idea from HO. They have no concept of what visitors want or need. They come up with these silly plans and we all roll eyes.

I’ve been a volunteer for 8yrs and currently taking a 4 week break because I was so pissed off with the ridiculous new fangled things we are expected to go along with. It’s embarrassing when visitors complain about the same thing on an hourly basis. We feedback to managers and management don’t care. It’s all HO directives.

Are they not changing them all to explain the problematic history of the houses?

Toddlerteaplease · 17/06/2023 22:09

I went to Speke and Belton recently and learned nothing. Also went to Tatton, which is private and there was loads of information. Must admit I do not care if the houses have 'problematic' histories. It's part of history and we shouldn't erase it.
