Alternatives to go Henry?

pastypirate · 17/06/2023 11:15

I see they have increased their fees now. Any alternatives that are good? I could move dd1 to a regular bank account now she's 13 but for dd2 go Henry has. Even superb but it's getting a bit spendy!

What about a revolt card? I know people use them abroad as they can be pre loaded with money.

GetDownkeith · 17/06/2023 11:20

I have a revolut card for travel so ds2 has an under 18s card attached to that.

I don't see the point in Go Henry really, paying to access your own money is the opposite of financial prudence.
We went from weekly cash, to monthly Nationwide with cash card, to monthly Nationwide with debit card.
How old is your DD2?

She's 10. They were much younger when I got the cards and they have loved it but I accept you're probably right - my biggest worry was that cards would be stolen anc I would need to freeze them instantly but I think you can do that with most cards now?

NatWest Rooster

fireflyloo · 17/06/2023 11:38

I have a Monzo and let me dc use it.

cocksstrideintheevening · 17/06/2023 11:40

Before dd was 11 I opened a Monzo account and she used that.

NatWest Rooster

That's what my daughter has. It's ok. Does the job 👍

HyperJar. I would never use gohenry as I think it's a rip off sorry

SallyWD · 17/06/2023 11:42

My son's too young for a bank account so we have a Hyperjar account. Basically it's an app and I pay his pocket money in to it each month and any money from family for birthdays etc. He has a debit card he can use in shops and online. Only downside is he can't withdraw cash with it. We're really happy with it.

LunaLoveFood · 17/06/2023 11:54

We use rooster and find it really good, it's even better now Natwest own it (we started using it before the take over). Dc keep on top of their chores and are enjoying learning about being responsible for their own money and spending.

I use this for mine.

It's great

Krawnprackers · 17/06/2023 12:02

Another vote for HyperJar.

Forgotmypasswordsgain · 17/06/2023 12:06

We use HyperJar as well, the kids (7&10) love their debit cards and I got a great exchange rate on my card spending abroad with no fees.

Kellioo · 17/06/2023 12:12

We use Hyperjar for DS. It's great, works everywhere, easy to manage and no fees.

worktired · 17/06/2023 12:12

Regular kids Halifax current account here. If parents bank with Halifax you can monitor the account, but if not then they can via an app.

minny80 · 17/06/2023 12:14

I have Monzo and my son gets his pocket money in a Monzo saving pot which is linked to a virtual card. Virtual card can be added to phone wallet and I can see the balance

FeltCarrot · 17/06/2023 12:20

My cousin suggested paying money on to her dc goHenry card as a birthday present. I had no idea about the fees I would be charged. (Ok not much admittedly but an Amazon voucher would have been cheaper)
