Any driving instructors about? Roundabout question….

DD17 is learning to drive and yesterday whilst driving with me had the following scenario…

Three lanes to enter the roundabout - DD going straight on (3rd exit) so entered the second lane (ahead only). Left lane is for left only, right lane is for ahead and right. (The ahead exit has two exit lanes).

The was a car directly to the left who failed to turn left on exit 1 or 2, so carried on driving in the lane that DDs “ahead only” lane should have spiralled into.

I know what I would do here but what’s the official position for driving tests etc? To avoid a collision she’d either have to slow down and then change into “her” lane (slowing down the cars behind her) or change lanes on the roundabout exiting in the second lane… and as far as I can tell either one could be problematic on a driving test?

Thanks for any help, im sure this was a riveting read for a Saturday morning 🤣

Not an instructor….

I would be aware of what cars I had behind me and to the right. If nothing to the right, I would change lanes to the right (still checking mirrors). If I had cars to the right, I would slow down. Slowing down would depend on what the other cars were doing, but there should be enough space between me and the car behind to be able to slow down without them hitting me.

If there were no other cars around, I’d play it by ear whether I slowed down if changed lanes. I prefer to slow down rather than change lane in case either I’ve missed something or someone comes fast trying to overtake.

I'm interested to see what others would do.
