Dog owner tried to intimidate me

Mars2020 · 16/06/2023 23:14

Was driving through my estate today when a small bichon frise dog suddenly went running out onto the road, the owner did not have it on a lead or under control. I was driving around 20 mph, and braked as quickly as I could when I heard this woman shouting "wait." It happened so quickly, I didn't even see the little thing run out into the road. Her dog wasn't hurt as I'd braked in time. This woman proceeded to shout verbal abuse at me and tried to blame me for almost running her dog over. I told her she was an idiot for not having it under control or on a lead. This woman then smacked my car window as hard as she could as I was driving off. Thankfully there was no damage, but I was mortified and had my ds with me who's only 8 and he was shook up as well by this nutter. I posted about this incident in a facebook neighbourhood group to warn other drivers about this ignorant woman's threatening behaviour, and within an hour my post was taken down. I didn't even use any foul or offensive language, but the moderators told me that it was reported by someone (possibly the woman herself or a relative/friend) and within the interests of keeping the peace they removed my post. I am absolutely fuming, as she's essentially gotten away with her threatening behaviour.

The poor dog will probably end up being run down, the owner sounds beyond help. I hope your DC is ok after the upset

Sounds horrible. Posting in a Facebook group was never going to help though.

thaegumathteth · 16/06/2023 23:26

I mean she shouldn't have hit your car but otherwise it's not that big a deal is it? She got a fright probably and so did you and you both were on edge. Let it go and learn that posting on fb pages isn't a great idea - it doesn't warn people it just makes you seen attention seeking.

Mars2020 · 16/06/2023 23:26

@PermanentTemporary the facebook post in the neighbourhood group was to warn other residents who drive, and may have the displeasure of encountering this vile woman. She feels very entitled to intimidate other drivers when her own dog is unpredictable. That could have happened to any driver.

I don't understand why you were mortified. Obviously it's not nice to have someone being aggressive to you but if anyone should be mortified it's her.

What a weirdo

musixa · 16/06/2023 23:41

She knows full well she's in the wrong and that's why she lashed out at you.

Mars2020 · 16/06/2023 23:49

@musixa thank you for your support hun x

So I posted about an upsetting incident on here that my son and I experienced, and you assume that I'm drunk?

the owner did not have it on a lead or under control.
this is actually illegal-Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is a criminal offence for a dog to be on a designated road (ie. a public road) without being held on a lead. all

Long story but I did hit a dog in a similar manner when it randomly ran across the road in front of me. it was ok but first thing owner said to me that it wax not my fault.

But dog owners can be a bit weird about having their dogs under control.

Wow I had no idea this is what the law says. Thank you for sharing your experience, I'm glad you encountered a more rational dog owner compared to the nut job I encountered today, and glad the dog was ok. Yes agreed dog owners can get really funny and defensive about having their dogs under control. I think like another poster commented, she knew she was in the wrong and that's why she lashed out.

Thanks for your reply, the woman was an absolute nut job, hopefully she would have learned a lesson today about keeping her dog under her control x

Obviously the dog owner has been commenting here. If anyone needs to put the bottle down or get a life it's those posters not OP

I think Gabiabbi was referring to a previous poster who has been reported to MNHQ.

Gabiabbi · 17/06/2023 15:00

Apologies OP, I wasn't replying to you - I was replying to a poster who posted an insulting reply to your post. Possibly the dog owner!

Mars2020 · 17/06/2023 23:18

@Gabiabbi my bad for misunderstanding, someone else also mentioned you were referring to the troll on here and I started thinking I'd misunderstood. Yes you are right hun, it very likely could be the crazy dog owner commenting, she also managed to get my post removed from our neighborhood Facebook group which was to warn other drivers about her nasty, aggressive behaviour, and her inability to keep her dog under control.

Wolfiefan · 17/06/2023 23:34

No dog should be off lead when walking by a road (dog owner here.). I’m sorry this happened to you.
