Nasal spray and eye drops. Takes a few days to kick in. I find the tablets make me feel like shit

Dc finds certirizine works better for him than loratadine.

I take Beconase every day. It takes about a week to make any difference so a lot of people give up saying it doesn’t work, but if you take it regularly it’s a game changer. No tablet ever touched my hayfever. However, if the pollen count is really really high, I can also ‘top up’ with a tablet and that stops any symptoms. Just tablets on their own are useless.

It depends what works best for the individual. Neither of those does anything for me, loratadine does though. If the pollen is really high I take Beconase, or a generic version, as well. If hayfever symptoms are really bad and it's affecting someone so much they can't function normally then they should go to the GP. There are other medicines which can be prescribed.

Fexiofenidine
Beconase nasal spray
Eye drops
Plus another antihistamine for break through attacks-pharmacist will advise.

Telfast the GP gave my son. You can get it online in different strengths. Look at your home, pets bring it in, hanging bed linens on the line,

Really struggled with hay fever the last few years, tried cetirizine and loratadine tablets - neither really touched it. Tried the steroid nasal sprays, they were ok but apparently your nose becomes addicted so that’s no use. This year I’ve tried over the counter piriton and it’s been fantastic. I bought the generic boots version, known as chlorphenamine maleate. They’re the drowsy type but I take them before bed and since starting them 3 weeks ago my symptoms are SO much better. Also using a saline nasal spray before bed and in the morning to wash out the pollen and that’s helped too.

Fexo - used to be prescription only

Take it every day, not just when symptomatic

FriedEggChocolate · 16/06/2023 08:40

I take Fexiofenidine, marketed as Allevia, at night, and cetirizine in the morning, as just one isn't enough. Loretadine doesn't work for me. I use Optrex eye drops too.

Scoobyblue · 16/06/2023 08:44

I use cetirizine and find it effective for me.

Dontjudgeme101 · 16/06/2023 08:44

Allevia same as @FriedEggChocolate My husband and both my children suffer with hayfever and this works. It’s amazing. We buy 30 tablets for £11 from Tesco. You can get a pack of 7 , l think it’s @£6/7.

AlltheFs · 16/06/2023 08:45

Best results are from a tablet, nasal spray and eye drops combined. One on its own isn’t enough.
Different tablets work differently on each person, I tend to alternate between them every few weeks.
