Hi,

I just wanted advice on a situation.

Underage child in school uniform purchased an 18 rated game. She clearly seems underage too!
You are supposed to be asked for identification if you look under the age of 25 anyway. Could you sue for this? It was a Call of Duty game.
Would you get compensation for this? This happened in CEX and have receipt too.

Sue?

bibbityboppityboo · 15/06/2023 21:19

You won't be able to sue / get compensation. Might get a refund and a worker into trouble though!

Summerishereagain · 15/06/2023 21:21

Sue? No, what would you sue them for? You could report the shop to trading standards.

Alittlesummeroasis · 15/06/2023 21:21

No you can’t sue for that. You can probably report them for not following the rules, but it doesn’t warrant you receiving compensation.

Alittlesummeroasis · 15/06/2023 21:24

Your council website will have contact details for Trading Standards if you wish to report it.

Hellocatshome · 15/06/2023 21:24

Why are you trying to make money out of this? Yes they should have checked but the child shouldn't have tried to buy something they arent allowed to so fault on both parts really. Complain to trading standards if you want but in reality in this circumstances I would probably just take it off my child, discipline them and then let it go.

Needmorelego · 15/06/2023 21:27

Do two things….
Talk to the manager.
Report them to trading standards.
Don’t sue them. That’s daft.

Rogue1001MNer · 15/06/2023 22:06

Compensation for what????

Foxesandsquirrels · 15/06/2023 22:07

Hahahaha hahaha wow.

Hoppinggreen · 15/06/2023 22:09

Sue?
maybe discipline the child who did it and report to trading standards but no, you can’t get any compo

Qilin · 15/06/2023 22:21

What would you sue for? What damages have you experienced?

An error has been made.
If you wish you can complain to CEX.
You can possibly return the game - you'd need to check though as not all computer games are refundable. In the circumstances they may do so regardless I guess.

Qilin · 15/06/2023 22:22

I'd be more concerned about the behaviour of the child though, if they belong to me. They'd be the ones in trouble, rather than me trying to make money out of their misbehaviour.

GottaGirlcrush · 15/06/2023 23:14

Maybe someone purchased on their behalf

caramelbambii · 17/06/2023 08:21

Just a general announcement I posted on someone else's behalf I was just interested in everyone's opinions about what they would do in this situation. Thanks for all your opinions!
