Found a great air b and b it says they are on Finsbury Square. Dont know London at all. So I wanted to be fairly in central London, dont mind if its on a short tube ride etc. Any advice?

This is more the financial district side, but close to Shoreditch, old st, Liverpool st.

these areas are good for night life, brunch, general good places to eat and brick lane.

depends on what part of central you want?

realistically as long as you are near a good tube you can get a round to most places. So make sure you are walking distance from a station

It’s in the City, which will mean a longish walk or a couple of stops on the tube for sightseeing and shopping in the West End area, but is central in the sense of being in the heart of London.

It's right in the city - financial district. Central yes but what's the purpose of your visit?

PatriciaHolm · 15/06/2023 14:46

Pretty central yes - nearest tubes are liverpool st and moorgate, on the circle/hammersmith & city/metropolitan line and central line so easy to get around

I wouldn’t stay there if I was looking to be somewhere bustling with lots of shops and pubs and restaurants at my front door over a weekend - the financial district clears out from Friday nights onwards and a lot of places don’t open again until Monday. The relative quiet is great however for exploring all the old streets and relics and churches of the City, you can go some places and not feel as though you’re in London at all.

I wouldn’t say it’s very central but a good location i think as close to Spitalfields market, Shoreditch, brick lane. You’ll have to get tube to Covent Garden, Westminster etc. the City is so interesting I’d recommend a walking tour

As other have said yes very central but pretty dead at the weekened. I used to work in that road and during the week its bustling - thousands of people going to offices, pret a mangers, chain pubs etc all very busy but at the weekend most of them are shit and there are very few people around. Not many restaurants/ pubs open in the evening at weekends. There is a big M&S that will presumably be open.

Its very easy however to travel from Finsbury Square to other bits of London - Angel, Shoreditch, Covent Garden, St Pauls, Southbank etc all half an hour walk or bus or a few stops on the tube.

It's in the City, the business district. It's not brilliantly located for nightlife, theatres, etc. if you are a tourist. Although it is by Liveroool St tube which will take you pretty much anywhere you need to get to.

UPDATE
Ah ok was going Fri to Sat.

My other option is a hotel near St Pauls

St Paul’s will also be quiet (but lovely) at the weekend.

Tell us what you want to do in London and we can recommend an area?

I used to work in Finsbury square and lived within walking distance - I actually really liked the financial district at the weekend. There’s so many historic buildings and random old graveyards and stuff but it’s v quiet. You’re close to Old Street and Shoreditch which would be livelier for restaurants and bars and there’s several tube stops that will take you everywhere.

was there anything in particular you wanted to see?
