How do I get a receptionist job with no prior experience

All the receptionist jobs that I saw are asking for prior experience as a receptionist which I don't have.

In fairness, they probably started off being lovely, bubbly people and were worn down to being the miserable fuckers you've encountered by years of experiencing rude or abusive customers and/or ignorant co-workers.

Started off? Im talking about under 30’s. Early 20s are the worst. Zero art of communication

OP you said: 'haven't worked much. Did some volunteering. Worked in a library,as a supply teaching assistant, exam invigilator. That's about it.'

That is really valuable experience that you can spin into transferable skills.
Was it a public library? I was in public libraries for years and learned so much about customer service, dealing with difficult people, dealing with emergency situations, signposting to other services, confidentiality, data protection, records management etc etc.
Similarly teaching assistant and exam invigilation teach you so many skills, I did the latter and it was one of the most stressful jobs I've ever had; needing to understand procedures and rules and apply them sensitively in different situations.
You just need to learn how to 'spin' your experience and skills. Pretend you're a politician!

Thanks for replying 🙂. No, it was a university library.

You do have some transferable skills.
You could look for a charity that has a role exactly like where you wish to work.
Work as a volunteer for a few months - learn skills and gain referees.

What do you think are my transferable skills?

Look for NHS reception roles where it's a entry level role. As long as you have a good application, transferable skills and are personable you'd be in with a shot.
