What age did your children stop bickering / fighting

Now I know this is a question that some
Parents will ask until their kids are in their 20s but I have 3 boys 5, 9, 11 and they are alaways annoying/ agitating each other by doing silly, frustrating, childish things. When did your kids start getting along better and not cause you to get wound up by their behaviour?

For record they are always well behaved, respectful children in public and do well in school, it's just the behaviour in the house I'm referring too

I don’t know mine are 17 (girl) 15 (boy) and they are still doing it 🙄. Thankfully it’s not as much now so hopefully it will keep improving!

mybestchildismycat · 15/06/2023 07:04

Three DC here with roughly two years gap between them all. They were all really close as young children (up to eldest DC being around 11) and barely bickered, certainly no fighting. Now they are teens and a tween, they still generally get on but bicker a LOT more than they used to now as they try to establish their independence and identities.

I think it is less to do with a particular age and more to do with the specific dynamics between your children. They might get on better as they get older, or they may not!

Mine are 19,17 and 13. It did decrease over the years and they would go through phases of getting on better or getting on better with one sibling. I felt the end was in sight. Now the two oldest seem to be back to toddler bickering again.
It does get better but don't think it ever completely goes away sorry.

Me and my brother argued and annoyed each other until he left for uni, so 19 and 15. Sorry!

My own DDs are still at it, 12 & 13.
It feels a bit less frequent than when they were smaller, but now there hormones to throw in too. (There's and mine!)

KitBumbleB · 15/06/2023 07:25

We are currently 32 and 34 and still going strong 😅

NorthWestThree · 15/06/2023 07:29

My two sons started being actual friends around 10 and 14 - before that the younger one was just small and annoying and the older one was too cool.
My younger son is now 15 and little sis is 13 and they are just starting to get along - the last 2 summer holidays were constant bickering and arguing, I'm hoping this year will be different!

We found DD with DS in his room the other day, they were listening to music together, we were so shocked DH wanted to film it 😂

I still bicker with my sister, we are most definitely not friends and we are in our 40s. We literally never had a phase where we got on, not ever. She is not a nice person though 😂

Maztek · 15/06/2023 07:30

They don’t 🤣

My husband and his brothers are all late 30’s early 40’s and they still bicker!

Cornflakesaredabomb · 15/06/2023 07:31

It’s very personality driven
I have three DC and the girl has always bickered with both her brothers but the boys have never have a cross word with each other.
It peaked when DD was about 15 and now in their late teens and 20s thankfully it’s almost non existent.

MathsNervous · 15/06/2023 07:31

Have four DC ranging from 16 to 5. They all bicker regularly. Sorry 😬

Dollmeup · 15/06/2023 07:35

I've been wondering this too! Mine are 5 and 3 and it's constant. Clearly I have a few years to go.

Looking back I think my brother and I just annoyed each other until we were both teens, then our interests aligned more and we got on fine.

AnxiousShep · 15/06/2023 07:38

Mine are late teens and early twenties. I have been very very shocked over the past year to see them actually talk to each other.

ImSidneyFuckingPrescott · 15/06/2023 07:39

@twinkpop my boys are the same age as yours and I was hoping to get more positive answers than the ones so far!

It's really difficult, we're going through a peak bickering stage.

My youngest and middle get on great most of the time, they do argue sometimes but more at the frequency I would expect. I try and work on getting the older two bonding, if they are getting on the youngest seems to just fall in.

Stressfordays · 15/06/2023 07:40

Mine are similar ages to yours (except I have a girl in the mix) and they rarely bicker. I think its more personality and I am expecting more once the hormones kick in.

Stressfordays · 15/06/2023 07:41

Also, I'm from a sibling set with similar ages and we bickered until we all hit older teens and all just wanted to share a lift home from town at the end of the night 🤣

golddustwomen · 15/06/2023 07:41

Oh god I ask myself this every day Grin mine are 9 and 6 and it's constant!!!

KittyMcKitty · 15/06/2023 07:42

I have a boy and girl - 20 and 18 - and they still bicker essentially for fun (they enjoy winding each other up). Other then that they are incredibly close they just get some perverse enjoyment out of annoying each other.

mondaytosunday · 15/06/2023 07:50

Mine are 17 and 19 and still bicker. A friend was just complaining an evening out at the pub was ruined by two of their three kids (also late teens) getting at each other non stop.
My stepsons used to physically fight when young teens, but ended up living together quite harmoniously at 20 and 22.

blackberriesaretheonlyfruit · 15/06/2023 07:57

My DH and his sibs are 45, 44, 41 and 37 and they still would bicker. Different in their case I'd imagine though as their DM loved pitting one against the other.

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 15/06/2023 08:39

My brother and I argued constantly until I left home at 17, so my poor parents had it for 14 years. We started to get along better when we were both in our 20s. Strangely enough we get on really well now and I genuinely like his company - I'm 50 now.

notsocoolbeans · 15/06/2023 09:03

Early 40’s late 30’s here and we still do like when we were children and I mean EXACTLY like when we were kids. Not adult bickering. So about food, tv, taking each other’s things like chargers. Pinching, shoving, shouting for MUUUMMMM 😳

My husband & his brother similar ages to us - they don’t talk. When they meet at family events it’s hi, how are you and that’s it.

CheshireCat1 · 21/06/2023 19:31

The bickering just gets funnier as they get older, always ending with a good laugh.
