I had to do cold call, double-glazing-type sales as a job once.
Our script was that if anyone said 'no,' we were supposed to just say 'thank you,' end the call, phone the next person on the list.
So, so many people would say 'I'm not sure, call again.' 'call back tomorrow', 'I'll ask my husband', 'I'm busy right now, call later.'
All those would get put on the call back list. You would have to call back until you got a 'no'
The ones who said no, were put on the list to call again in 2 years.
Plenty of people said yes, and got the 'double-glazing'.
I just couldn't stand the people who would say, 'call on Friday' on Friday: 'I'm a bit busy, call on Monday.' On Monday:I'm running late, call on Tuesday. On Tuesday 'Stop calling me!' and then they would be taken off the list.
But the script was that if they asked for a call back you had to do it.
So many people just wouldn't say, 'I'm not interested. Bye.'
The strategy of the company was that they were offering a service people wanted, so they would call as many people as they could to get some who were interested.
