If you could go back in time with that knowledge, what would the knowledge be?

It's fine to be upset about things. You don't have to shake it off and 'get over it' straight away. Don't dwell, but find a way to healthily deal with sadness and frustration without pushing it down and ignoring it.

You can absolutely take your time. Just because a decision has to be made it doesn't mean it has to be made on the spot that second. Some people are more impulsive and get annoyed by deep thinkers, but don't let them force you into decision making. They won't take responsibility for your decisions if you make a mistake.

@SomethingFun what's an example of something that's alright and pays well?

Software Engineer.

IsThereAnEchoInHere · 15/06/2023 16:01

You are worthy even if you were fat, it’s really not the worst thing 😉

I suffer with anxiety and this has helped me enormously. Every I think regretfully or guiltily about things I have said done or put up with, I tell myself

”this is very first moment of my life”.

The truth is that, what is done or said can’t be undone or unsaid. Bad things that happened to me in the past cannot be changed. I can vow from that moment to make my life better and be a kinder person and protect myself.

Hear hear to both of these

PurpleChrayne · 15/06/2023 19:42

People don't care about anything or anyone outside of their family.

Napoleandynamite · 15/06/2023 19:50

Stress less! Life is not a race. The mortgage and the baby can wait.

Hexjex · 15/06/2023 19:58

Like your style/vibe @ComtesseDeSpair !

I will hopefully think of something myself soon…. but am a bit lost. I do t really think I could of changed anything really.

One thing though - I would say don’t do any kind of sex you’re not 100% in favour of. There are some creepy men out there - not that many but a few - don’t pander to them, it’s demeaning to yourself and your female soul.

Hexjex · 15/06/2023 19:59

Oh, and don’t project your goodness onto others! Let people show you who they are.

Hexjex · 15/06/2023 20:20

As @EmpressSoleil said, being a cat lady - and life on your own terms - is veeeery underrated - and quite a lot of fun sometimes.

JamSandle · 15/06/2023 20:26

A lot of people don't know what they're talking about. Don't take everyone's opinions on your shoulders.

JamSandle · 15/06/2023 20:27

Protect your dreams, values and what matters to you.

Respect your inner BEAUTY, see it, accept it, enjoy it

don’t sell yourself short
don’t let the bastards and bores

I wish I'd moved around more and travelled.

I suffer with anxiety and depression and had a... difficult home life as a child. I think I spent too much of my life trying to "settle down" and have a stable home life that I craved as a child. Now as an adult I feel like I missed out on some great experiences and opportunities that I didn't even realise were possible because I was too scared to take chances incase I failed or was left in a state of chaos again.

Maybe if I could go back I'd tell myself to just try and be more carefree and not try to rush my life to get to the part with all the stability and enjoy the possible chaos.

Well said! I feel exactly the same way

Amber2023 · 15/06/2023 21:40

I second a lot of these. I wish I had chosen more of a career rather than falling into something and settling I suppose. Definitely sleep around and don’t feel guilty about it because once you meet your husband you’ll be sleeping with the same person for the rest of your life. ( not in a bad way) just enjoy it while you can. Enjoy life before kids! The kids phase is challenging and equally amazing in my experience BUT travel, go on holidays, meals out enjoy your child free days.

Frankenpug23 · 15/06/2023 21:57

Your gut feeling about ‘that man’ was right - so just leave him!
That most things will be okay with time - e.g mistakes made in relationships, marriage break ups etc
Don’t spend hours worrying - that you may have said something wrong/ inappropriate while in company
Self care is important
Sort your mental health out earlier
Not to be afraid to challenge your parents and call out their behaviour
That having teenagers/ kids is really hard work
Not to spend so much money

extramaturecheddarcheese · 15/06/2023 22:07

That nobody is really interested in you or what you look like, they're too busy worrying about what other people think of them.

That now is important - don't spend all your time thinking about 'once this or that has happened things will be better'. Now is important. Don't wish time away.

piesforever · 15/06/2023 23:01

Don't work for the NHS. Subconscious racism is REAL.

BestieBunch · 16/06/2023 10:40

Travel!
Don’t settle down so young!
Go to the gym!
Remember your worth!

WarmFunKindStrong · 16/06/2023 11:37

Feeling tired all the time is not normal.

HRT works, give it 6 months.

letloz · 16/06/2023 13:28

Save money before having kids. But also (somehow) try to fit in as many life experiences (gigs, travel, nice meals etc) beforehand too.

ErinTingey · 16/06/2023 15:00

Your worth is not measured by what others think of you

Having done various types of career, I’d recommend picking something that pays well that’s alright over a vocation or something that you love that pays pennies as the money will cushion you if the shit hits the fan, as it often does.

If you’re going to marry, marry someone who is kind and makes you laugh and understands you’re a partner not their mum. It’s no life picking up after a fully capable adult.

You always look better than you think you do. Exercise and eat well for your health and wellbeing, not how much you weigh, your body will thank you for it.

Have a savers mindset, don’t spend all you earn, even if it’s only a pound. If you follow my first advice you’ll earn plenty anyway but you will get more from it if you make it work for you than if you blow it on consumer stuff.

Make time for the people and things you love and enjoy, don’t get sucked into a work/ drudgery cycle

SomethingFun has nailed it. I need to work on the last one.

luladebulachops · 16/06/2023 20:33

You don't have to marry him just because you had sex.

Stay and explore London and it's opportunities.

Let go of the shame and humiliation that you married a wrong 'un.
