Hi all,
I've been a lurker on here for a while but now I could really do with some support...
I'm 37yo, no children and have been having irregular and prolonged bleeding since Feb 2023. Had an trans-abdominal and trans-vaginal ultrasound in late April which showed 'features of focal adenomyosis' / 'ddx early fibroids'.
In May I had mild-moderate bleeding for nearly a month (annoyingly made heavier by exercise) so went back to the GP who prescribed norethisterone for 14 days. It kept the bleeding at bay although it did make me feel a bit depressed and I did experience some spotting. A few days after my prescription ended I had the most horrendous 'period' ever - soaking through a night pad every hour and leaking everywhere. Called 111 three times and was prescribed tranexamic acid which seems to have reduced the flow significantly but I'm still getting horrendous cramps.
I have been referred to gynaecology but was told it could take months before I'm seen!
In the meantime, whilst i wait for yet another GP appointment on the 23rd, I have a few questions:
Have any of you used tranexamic acid for heavy periods/bleeding due to fibroids and has the bleeding tailed off like a 'normal period' or does it get heavy again after the course of tablets has finished?
Have any of you been on the mini-pill to treat the symptoms of adenomyosis/fibroids and has it helped with heavy bleeding etc?
I'm reluctant to opt for the coil - speaking to some of my friends, it's a hit/miss!
I guess I just need a short-term solution before I can get to a gynaecologist. It's so frustrating that there's very little research on adenomyosis - and the ultrasound results I had were inconclusive i.e. could be adeno or early fibroids. Is there no other conclusive way of diagnosing this apart from after a hysterectomy? I really don't want to go down this route but after yesterday, I'm a little bit traumatised and can't bear the thought of going through this every month!
Finally if anyone can recommend any private gynaecologists in NW London specialising in fibroids/adenomyosis, that would be really helpful!
Thanks everyone.
