Ds verruca bane of my life

I caught it early, it was a tiny dot when I started treating it with bazuka and those plasters with the paste inside. It's gone very dry and almost looks like a round circle of dead skin that you could pick off, does this sound like it's on the way out ?
I'm so sick of reminding ds to leave his sock on before he walks around the house etc

Anyone know?

Take him to a chiropodist and they’ll cut it out. Will take a few minutes.

If he gets another, don’t use those things. Use the one which freezes it off. Works amazingly!

He is autistic and really struggles with sensory things so both them idea's wouldn't help I don't think!

Have you tried picking off what’s left?

HowardKirksConscience · 12/06/2023 21:57

Get some Salactol off an online chemist. Brilliant stuff.

Shinyandnew1 · 12/06/2023 21:58

Paint it with a layer of nail varnish every evening for a week. DS had a massive one that just fell out after me doing this. No pain and it left a very satisfying crater!

The freeze off one doesn’t feel of anything. If you touch the skin then it can but if you just touch the verruca then he won’t feel anything and it’ll go away really quickly.

bobuka · 12/06/2023 22:01

No haven't tried picking it off but I might have too. If not will try the freeze stuff if it won't hurt him. Thank you.

I used this on my son’s and it was gone in just over a week. He didn’t find the freezing at all painful and he is not particularly stoic.

I really don't think anyone in your house will catch it if he doesn't wear socks on carpet etc. I had one for 10 years that my husband never caught. I thought the advice now was just to leave them and they go away themselves eventually?

The Bazuka gel leaves a protective film over it, so you don't need to cover it. My DD was covered in warts, filiform warts on her face (especially big one under her eye), on her hands, arms and even a couple on her leg.

Bazuka didn't work, Salactol didn't work, thuja pills didn't work, dandelion stem juice didn't work, ditto vinegar and banana peel.

GP was going to see if she could be prescribed ranitdine or something like that, as couldn't use anything on the face.

We bought the freezing stuff. It worked on the one under her eye (yep it's fine for the face), and most of the others, except some on the hands...they went shortly after.

I never got anything from her (or my son), but randomly got one on my finger recently, which is large and spread to below the nail.

Been using Bazuka on it...it dried up, I picked it off and it's now there again, so going to have to get some freezing stuff.

Duct tape is fantastic, cheap, not too invasive and worth a try, got rid of my own and kids within a few weeks. The fact it’s nice and tight might help a kid with sensory issues, the plasters can fall off really easily. And it doesn’t hurt!

Gdxx · 13/06/2023 05:23

I had one for years and the only thing that eventually worked was I went to a clinic for advanced electrolysis and it killed it off in one session. Had tried literally every remedy there is before that

I thought they were really contagious?

In wet areas like swimming pools and through close contact like sharing towels, not walking around the house. They are also much more contagious if you start picking at them and exposing the layer under the skin (ie treating them) - an old, untreated verucca would be doing well to spread across household carpet or whatever.

This! Have just done this with autistic ds and it works! Still took a while, about 3 weeks, but has finally gone

lostinmaze · 13/06/2023 07:54

I've used the wartner freezing pen for a stubborn one that's been there a few years, took one application. It does hurt a bit during application so your ds might not tolerate it but it's been the solution for me .

Berthatydfil · 13/06/2023 07:56

Keep going it sounds as if its on its way out. My ds had one which iI was treating with bazooka. The skin went white and started to lift so i picked it and it came out whole. It was a pea sized lump of really hard skin, it left a huge hole (that healed up quickly) and it bled a lot.
However if there is a tiny amount left it will grow back and often it can look like its gone but there can be bits lurking deeper in the skin so keep treating until your totally positive its completely gone.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/06/2023 07:57

Bazuka gel and file down every other day. The filing is most important.

MissSmiley · 13/06/2023 08:09

As far as I know it's to do with the immune system, my son had a couple around age 10 then he had 12 or more, they were very painful but after a few months I noticed they had all disappeared on their own. Four other children and two adults in the house didn't catch them.

Lindy2 · 13/06/2023 08:23

You do have to file off or pick off the white dead skin when using Bazzucca. You then apply more of the gel. The idea is that eventually you've dug out enough skin for the whole of the verruca to have been removed.

It can take a while and you mustn't leave any verruca there or it will grow back.

Res_Ipsa · 13/06/2023 08:48

I suffered terribly with verrucas for years. I tried everything and nothing touched them.

I used a silver nitrate pencil in the end - dirt cheap from the pharmacy and worked first time. They all turned black and died.

The pencil is not invasive at all, and the process does not hurt. Just wet the tip, rub it on and wait for it to dry.

Don't pick it off. The black spots in verrucae are dry blood in the capillaries, a lot of people mistakenly think it's a head like a spit or blackhead and try to pick it out. There is a treatment available called "Swift" treatment, many podiatrists offer this, it's non invasive, doesn't require freezing or picking at the verruca in any way, it may be an option if your son has sensory needs that mean he'd find other methods distressing.

It’s just the dead skin/dried treatment at the top that needs picking off, not the black dots. If you keep putting Bazuka on top, nothing happens except a new layer forms. You need to either file it down or get the top layer off before putting more Bazuka on, otherwise you’re not treating the actual verucca.
Having said that, a child with sensory needs may not tolerate that (talking from experience!) so another type of treatment might be better in this case.

bobuka · 13/06/2023 09:35

Yes this is another issue, he can't tolerate the filing either !! He tried to do it himself but struggles with his fingers so couldn't do it properly.

I have put some duct tape over it this morning, it took some convincing but seems worth a try.
Does it suffocate it is that the idea?
