Anyone else with an NT kid who's destined to get 4s, 5s and 6s in their GCSEs?

DC is just your average run of the mill kid, had a couple of difficulties throughout their life so far but nothing that has caused long term issues. Destined to get average grades in the GCSEs that they're currently taking. Anyone else with a kid in the same position? Feeling kinda lonely....

@x2boys funding will be in place until 19th birthday. Eg if birthday is early September then the the whole if that year is free as student is 18 at the start of their course.

If they are 19 at the start then it can still be free if don’t have a full level 3. Or can take out a loan.

@Oldraver that sounds like it’s a college decision. The government say that T levels can recruit any student if they show potential to gain the qualification.

If a student doesn’t have English or maths then it’s still possible to progress to level 3 depending on subject. Eg no English and want sciences then this should be ok to resit maths alongside.

Op those grades are common. And will give plenty of options in the future. The introduction of grade 8/9 was a bad thing imo as it devalued grade 7/ A. A grade A/7 should still be viewed as excellent.

Oh that surprises me. His college have banged on about how he should be doing T-Level, and that their hands are tied as it's a government decision.

He has redone his English Language but Is moving to a different college and they said even if he fails it again he can do it alongside T-Level. He did well in Maths which we think is better for Engineering

Sorry I should’ve said no English but have maths then yes it should be ok to resit English alongside.

With respect to T levels it won't just be about government rules as to whether you need English & maths passes, it will be about timetabling, and also the college feeling confident you are able enough. The grade 3 is quite a wide spread - there is a big difference between just didn't get a 2, and narrowly missed a 4. The written aspects require good analysis and similar skills.

Yes that’s true. It is interpreted differently. And where within grade boundary as well as what the rest of the GCSE profile looks like.

The guidance states if the student has the potential to achieve the T level then they should be considered.

I'm about to have a 'discussion' with college re Level 2 Functional Skills v GCSE resit. I think by y14 DD should be doing Functional Skills but I can't actually work out if they offer it at Level 2 or not.

Rummikub · 18/06/2023 13:58

I’d be surprised if level 2 functional skills isn’t on offer.
This is something I suggest for some students instead of retaking GCSE English / maths.
