For around 20 folk and would rather not have any hot dishes if possible please. Def a finger buffet. Ideas for little puddings would be great too please and everything must be gluten free. Thanks!

How many are gluten free?
I would just do something different for them. Anything pastry based that is gluten free will be pretty poor.

Or eat meat and fish with no sauces only?

Vietnamese summer rolls. Lots of youtube videos on how to roll them and delicious with a satay sauce. Can be made the day before if kept in cling film/sealed box.

Small meringues with berries/cream

brandy snaps

mini cheese cakes using a GF biscuit base

Sounds awful for those who aren't gluten free, can't you just do half and half?

As a gluten free person, thanks for this 😂😭 I miss pastry, you can all do one buffet 😜

Not really, lots of things are naturally gluten free.

WillowtreeHouse · 11/06/2023 21:21

3 are coeliac but one in particular is on chemo and recently had surgery. I really don't want to risk them getting very poorly because of careless cross contamination. The party is for her too and absolutely none of the rest of us will care about everything being gluten free, we just want her to have a lovely time.

No it’s not awful. If (general) you actually eat protein and vegetables instead of stupid sausage rolls all the time, then it’ll fine putting together a buffet. It isn’t difficult. Just cook real food.

JingsMahBucket · 11/06/2023 21:24

@WillowtreeHouse are there any other concerns like no pork, dairy, etc?

Norwichknowall · 11/06/2023 21:24

Asian would work well - summer rolls, sushi, noodle salad, cucumber salad, prawns, satay, chilli tofu etc. all taste good cold.

chococolate brownies (often good gluten free), pavlova and lots of berries and ice cream for dessert?

No, nothing like that. Would like a mix of veggie and non veggie dishes really.

More helpfully maybe..

Frittata

Meat without coating

Veggie skewers

Pudding
Delia's yogurt/cream thing with frozen fruit and Demerara sugar on top
Fruit salad
Becky Excell Coronation Cupcakes
GF brownie

Smoked salmon

Cascais · 11/06/2023 21:27

Potato salad

PinkFootstool · 11/06/2023 21:27

Here we go, the "can't do a buffet without meat for a vegetarians birthday, they'll STARVE" lot will pile in here again 😂😂😂

Anyway, in the land of the sane where people understand that gluten contamination can put some people in hospital.....

Cold meats, veg in sticks for dipping, salads - go chunky with lots of extras like chopped apple, walnuts, pomegranate, olives.

Houmous, dips. Potato salad. Frittatas rather than quiche - spinach, tomato, cheese etc. Hard boiled eggs.

Things on sticks - chicken skewers, veg skewers, cheese, pineapple and silverskin onions 😋.

Gluten free rolls, wraps, pastas, vol au vent cases, tortilla chips etc are options of course if you want to use them. That would give you the option for sandwiches, pasta salads, vol au vents, chips to go with dips...

Cascais · 11/06/2023 21:27

Sorry just seen you said a finger buffet

JingsMahBucket · 11/06/2023 21:28

@WillowtreeHouse Here’s a sample menu:

  • Roasted chicken thighs (boneless or with bones)
  • Crustless quiche
  • Grain and roasted vegetable salad
  • Green salad
  • Cheeses
  • Berries and various fruit cut up
  • Olive oil cake (almond flour) served with honey & lemon mascarpone on top
Guineapigwoes · 11/06/2023 21:28

Charcuterie board with gf crackers
Spanish omelette instead of quiche
Rice salad instead of pasta
Gf pizza

Might be worth ordering some pies from somewhere like voakes

I also buy a gf tiger loaf, make criss cross cuts into the top and stuff with garlic butter and cheese - goes down really well

PonyPatter44 · 11/06/2023 21:29

Chicken satay skewers, Thai meatballs, GF cocktail sausages, rice paper rolls, halloumi salad, rice salad, taramasalata and celery, hummus and mini rice cakes, vegetable skewers, fruit salad.

I'm not good at puddings but I'm sure other people will have amazing suggestions!

I meant to say I stick the tiger loaf in the oven so it goes all oozy and lush

JingsMahBucket · 11/06/2023 21:31

@MillbankTower rice noodles which are normally used in Asian salads are gluten free if you take care.

PonyPatter44 · 11/06/2023 21:34

@Guineapigwoes your menu sounds delish!

pastabest · 11/06/2023 21:34

Fritata - morrions do a ready made one that's gluten free if you don't want to cook it yourself

Olives, stuffed mini peppees, sundried tomatoes

Potato wedges

Cheese/ onion/ pineapple sticks

Croutons/ crostini - cut Warburton gluten free tiger bread into chunks/ sticks and drizzle with oil herbs salt and garlic. Bake in the oven or cook in the air fryer until golden.

More Warburton tiger bread for sandwiches

Okshacky · 11/06/2023 21:35

Just choose a cuisine heavy in rice or potato and go with that.
