What would happen if the UK Parliamentarians and Head of State were the victims of a terrorist attack?

Watched Designated Survivor on Netflix. 1 Cabinet Secretary is in the White House during the State of the Union - Congress is blown up and he becomes the President because of the succession laws in the USA. President, VP,Speaker etc

What would happen here? I know we have someone who is sent as a "hostage" to Buckingham Palace when we have the Opening of Parliament - but if all our Parliamentarians were killed in Parliament, who would take charge?

Would the local parties just have to nominate new MPs and we would have a new election, regardless of experience?

I suppose the privy council could step in. Whoever was the last leader of both parties could step in as care taker. Maybe not boris or Liz but Theresa or David would work

Re the monarch - whoever was the surviving next in line. Dunno about the MPs but if they were all obliterated a few people responsible for state and parliamentary security would be looking for new jobs.

I've watched Designated Survivor and thought the same thing too. (I started a watch thread some years ago I think but not about this topic in particular).

It would shatter the UK first of all if such a thing were to happen. I also think there are secret bunkers and such.

Penny whatshername would grab the sword from the vault and march in to take over.

I'm sure some monkeys from the local zoos could be rounded up, stick em in a suit and shave them and who'd ever know the difference

There's a weakness in the plot though as Ralph appears to be illegitimate, so he would not be in the line of succession.
