What's a reasonable time for an outdoor party to wrap up?

A house a few doors down at the back have been laying music through what sounds like a professional PA system since about 3pm. I'm indoors with all the windows closed and it sounds like I'm in a festival field with them. They're not even next door!

It doesn't happen often and one of those things when you live close to others in the summer.

But I did think they'd have shut it off by midnight....

Yes, I think around midnight or shortly afterwards would be around the time I'd start to lose patience with them and expect that at least the music would get turned down to a reasonable background level.

Sugarfree23 · 11/06/2023 00:23

I'd say around midnight.

If its a one off I'd turn a blind eye but if it becomes a regular thing I'd either have a word or call environmental health noise pollution is a thing

Tilllly · 11/06/2023 00:24

Agree
Midnight is as late as it should get

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 11/06/2023 00:24

Sound should go down about 11pm

Preps · 11/06/2023 00:25

Think it's getting worse. Earlier on it was "family partty" music, all the popular hits from my youth 😆 Now it's all bass, I can feel it in my chest.

As a one off maybe about 1

ConcernedMum22 · 11/06/2023 00:27

If it's a rare one off, then probably 1am/2am.

Preps · 11/06/2023 00:29

You really think it's OK to keep the entire neighbourhood awake until 2am, even as a one off?

Poos DS has to be at work at 6am

I just picked up DS from an 18th, it was booming down the street but they shut it off bang on 12, I think that's fairly reasonable as a special occasion.

Sugarfree23 · 11/06/2023 00:34

It's not really great if they keep everyone up but I'd still turn a deaf ear if it's a very occasional thing, for the sake of neighbourly harmony.

2chocolateoranges · 11/06/2023 00:47

I’d say midnight.

our neighbours over the back had music blaring and loud voices until 3 am one morning, i was ready for complaint until I found out that it had been his mums funeral so I excused it and put it to a one off, which it was.

midnight is late enough.

Rainbowsandfairies · 11/06/2023 01:13

A few times a years, people round here have them but they're always over by 2/3am

LifeIsPainHighness · 11/06/2023 01:37

Midnight

Though this is MN so probably in MNLand about 7pm 😂

CuteCillian · 11/06/2023 01:41

I think 11.30ish for loud music to be turned down. If anyone in our neighbourhood is having a big do, we tend to put a notes through nearby doors giving apologies in advance and saying a time when the music will stop.

Wishitsnows · 11/06/2023 01:46

I’m sure your DS will cope getting up for work after hearing loud music!

simplesimply · 11/06/2023 01:52

My next door neighbour's party is still going strong and I'm getting quite frustrated.
It's an occasional occurrence but this is the longest and loudest that it's ever been.
They've got a great playlist but I'd rather sleep.

Yes I'm sure the patients at the hospital will love that fact that he had 4 hours sleep before his shift.

Unfortunately we can't all live in the countryside and we just have to get on with our neighbours. 4 hrs sleep is still an OK amount. When I did nightshifts, 4 hrs sleep during the day was great lol 😆 hope your son is fine x

WonderDays · 11/06/2023 11:54

Midnight.
