I discovered today that I'm one of *those* parents

Went to a gala day with my 2 young DC today. Peppa and George were making a special appearance and my eldest, who is almost 3) is a big fan. We got there 40 minutes before they were due to appear, got a space at the front and sat patiently waiting (not easy with 2 toddlers). When they came out, a little girl of about 6 came strolling up and stood directly in front of DS. I'm not annoyed at her, she's young, excited and wanted to see the characters. I AM annoyed at her inconsiderate, selfish mother who happily allowed to do this and actively encouraged her to 'get closer' so she could take a picture. What about my son's photo op??? He'd been waiting for 40 mins!!!
Long story short, I didn't allow her the photo she wanted (her DD did ofcourse get a hug from Peppa). I stepped in front of the mother and made sure that DS was squarely in the frame.

Who do some people think they are???

petty and bizarre.

If by “those parents” you mean a touch lairy, then yes. Most definitely

Floralnomad · 10/06/2023 16:05

I’m fairly sure you will get loads of responses like the first one but I think you are absolutely right . It’s always the same with people who think they can turn up at the last minute and then shove their offspring to the front .

Couldn’t you have politely asked for her to move slightly to the side before turning into a mumzilla and depriving her of a photo?!

peachesandsweets · 10/06/2023 16:08

Why didn't you just ask mum to get behind you? I get the frustration but no need to be so passive aggressive with a little kid Blush

CurlewKate · 10/06/2023 16:14

I understand your feelings-but why didn't you just let the child in alongside yours?

I would have happily let her in alongside but that was not what she wanted. She wanted in front, and that, I was not happy with.

No. She didn't politely ask us to move over a bit so her DC could get in. She was depriving me of a photo so why should I allow her one?

To be clear, if I wasn't in my OP, I don't blame the kid and wasn't in any way aggressive towards her. She got to meet Peppa, I wouldn't have prevented that. What I did do was prevent her mother from getting g the photo that she was preventing me from getting.

If there was no queue (ie, a crowd situation), you're being a dick. If there's a gap in front of you, it's a space for someone else.

Unless they were running through at marathon pace why couldn’t both children get the photo? I don’t get why it was an either or situation

Rightiothen13 · 10/06/2023 16:35

This all sounds a bit… scary! 😂

Right then...

I hope you get over this tendency before you hit Primary school territories. Start sewing the Mary costume now and potentially think about how you will handle little India-Malala being giving all the good bits in each assembly.

YoucancallmeKAREN · 10/06/2023 16:41

You did the right thing

Riiiight. So, what did you do after getting your photo then? Just stand there blocking the way until the meet was over? Strange, petty behaviour.

There was a massive crowd, hence getting there 40 minutes early to ensure we were at the front.

It wasn't a case of wait in a queue and get a photo. It was a roped off area where the characters did a walk around and shook hands/hugged/high fived the kids who were all on the other side of the rope.

IglesiasPiggl · 10/06/2023 17:09

Surely you just get your photo and then move out of the way? But honestly don't get hung up about particular photos. You will have so many by the time they are about 5 that it really doesn't matter exactly which shot you have of them with Peppa in order to capture the moment.

Newuser82 · 10/06/2023 17:10

That happened to us at Disneyland paris. We got there really early for the parade so my kids could see. About two minutes before it started another family came and pushed right in front of my 4 year old so he couldn't see anything. So annoying!
