Anti histamine allergy

Hi everyone

Is it possible to be allergic to anti histamines or have them disagree with you to the point you can't take them.? My partner says that all make him feel awful and he gets incredibly depressed and drowsy whenever he does. I have noticed this affect on him but have never come across this issue before. We have tried loratdine, cetirizine, piriton etc nothing prescription based

Thanks

They can have side effects, yes, and being drowsy is possible even with the 'non drowsy' ones.

He might find that fexofenadine (sold over the counter as Allevia) suits him better as it works differently to the usual AHs.

All medication has potential side effects and different people have different reactions.

Antihistamines are well known to cause drowsiness, however loratadine and ceterizine are supposed to be less likely to cause drowsiness than Piriton (chlorphenamine).

Other side effects will be listed on the leaflet. Eye drops and nasal sprays are pretty effective if tablets don't suit.

Thanks both, the hayfever has been out of control this year! I will get him to try fexofenadine and see how he gets on.

I'm highly sensitive to certain coating of tablets and certain colours. I can feel dreadful for days if I take something containing those ingredients

Yes I can’t take loratadine I had an adverse reaction

Anti histamines don’t agree with me. Leave me feeling spaced out and cause diarrhea. Even the so called non drowsy ones.
