How to stop delivery companies flattening my shrubs :(

By my front door I have a well established area with lots of shrubs that go up to the window. I have a heather on the edge which is lower. I've lost count of how many times deliveries are left on top of the heather. I had a bright yellow sign made saying please do not leave parcels here. I came home the other day to find 3 very large, heavy boxes just left on top of the heather, right in front of the sign, it's completely flattened, I'm so angry!! Trying to sort it out with the company but my reason for this post is

How do I stop deliveries being dumped on my shrubs? Please don't suggest click and collect or just buy from a shop.

Anyone have any good ideas that will look nice and not to expensive?

I understand what you are all saying but that still doesn't give the driver the right to put it on my shrubs in full view. Surely it should have been put back on the van. I think we'll have to agree to disagree. Thanks everyone

I'm not sure where you are ordering things from but from experience they don't read signs, Amazon being the worse
My mum is housebound and needs deliveries to the back door and where possible left in a parcel box. The amount of delivery drivers who just bang on the front door is staggering
I've also got it set up on dpd etc but many drivers just don't read the notes or signs. Presumably due to the limited time allowed per delivery and English not being a first language

Is what it is, as for reporting g to an ombudsman, do you have nothing better to do with your life 🤣 hilarious in this instance

Slightly off topic, but I manage a school office and ALWAYS let staff get their deliveries sent to school. We keep hold of then for them and drop them an email when it arrives. Have you asked your office team if you can?

Heartsnrainbows · 10/06/2023 17:35

To be fair, you can't always arrange for when you are in. I have an Amazon order at the moment that says it will arrive by the 15th June. I can't stay in all week waiting and tracking is no help. It just says dispatched and with the carrier. You usually get a notification the day of the delivery but that is often too late to sort anything. Some items cannot be delivered to a locker and I don't know anyone else who will be home all week to take it in for me either. Things should be left out of sight or taken back and rearranged.

Sorry, but I disagree. I shouldn't have to have a safe place because parcels SHOULD NOT be left in full view of the road and then said handed to resident. The driver should have taken the parcels back and then I could (hopefully if they offer that service) rearrange a day I would be in. I couldn't pick the first delivery, I was told delivery would be between 3-5 working days!

And what if they don't 'offer that service'. You could never be in at the right time and the delivery could never be made. Can't you see that this is a you problem?

If you're unhappy with the service you're receiving then ultimately you have two choices - change service provider and probably pay more for set day delivery, or provide the drivers with a safe space for your parcels to be left when you're out.

What couriers are you using? Surely they have a tracking service so you can see when your items are out for delivery?

So in that case, I wouldn't order the item from Amazon unless I was happy for my item to be posted through the letterbox or left in a safe space.

No, I really don't think this is my problem. Deliveries SHOULD NOT be left on top of someone's's shrubs. On this occasion I wasn't given any tracking details, I don't know why, maybe because it was a sub contractor and I couldn't stay home for a few days waiting for the delivery. Anyway, we all have different opinions and I really just wanted to know if anyone had any good ideas about how to protect my shrubs. I do have a safe space, over the gate but it was not possible for this delivery due to the weight. I also have a neighbour who takes in parcels but again this was not practical for this delivery. It's not always possible to have a safe space. The fact remains the driver shouldn't have left it where he did. I really can't see how this is my problem. I didn't book the courier, the seller did. He should have taken the parcels back, that's his job to deliver safely. Some very strange views and opinions but hey ho thanks anyway. Bye all

Of course it's your problem. You ordered things which were too big and heavy to throw over the gate or give to your neighbours when you knew you weren't home to receive them.

It's baffling that you think this is anyone else's problem. If you don't want parcels left outside your house when you're not there, stop ordering things

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 11/06/2023 07:50

You shouldn't be ordering heavy parcels knowing you won't be home to receive them, and knowing they're too heavy to leave in your safe space.

Either you pay extra for weekend/set day delivery so you can arrange to be at home, or you make your safe space accessible at all times.

Complaining that a driver has delivered the items to your home and "squashed your heather" won't get you anywhere. You chose to have the items delivered knowing you wouldn't be there - the driver has better things to do than lug your items back and forth to his van until you happen be at home to receive them.

FredaFox · 11/06/2023 11:22

Just pay the extra for named day delivery if you are going to be so ridiculous about it

Classic MN where op won't accept they might be in the wrong

rightioly · 11/06/2023 12:02

For some reason all the delivery drivers have decided if im not in to leave the parcel anyway. This includes when I ask them to come another day. So I try to be in for my parcels but they often dump and run even if I am in!

Your complaint should really be that the courier left parcels insecure. The shrubs are a red herring. Deliveries shouldn't really be left out anywhere unless instructed to
