I’ve just discovered that we have nits in the household. Specifically me and ds3. I’ve never had them before, although we did all have the hedrin gel about 5 years ago when ds2 caught them.
I still have the gel so am about to do my head but will wait until ds3 is awake in the morning to do his. Might need to ooo to chemist to get some more.

My question is… I have v long thick hair, is half a 250ml bottle going to be enough?!

Ugh. Sympathy from me. Tbh I think anything you can chuck on your hair tonight will help. You can always finish the job tomorrow.

Do you have hair straighteners?

After treatment get as close to the root as possible and run it through in small sections. It kills the eggs!

Just a tip :)

I doubt it, just been through this. Also check it isn't out of date!

I've never used the nit gel, I've always used the bottle of conditioner and nit comb method and it's always worked well

Buy the biggest, cheapest conditioner you can find. Wash hair then smother in conditioner. Split hair into sections and come through each section from the very root to the tip with a nit comb. Repeat every other night for a week - every night if you can. It takes ages and the patience of a saint but it works.
The Hedrin will probably be out of date and doesn't always kill 100% of them.
I'm a teacher and have been blessed with nits once off my pupils. My own DC have had them, one of whom had thick corkscrew curls & the conditioner way is the only thing that got rid of them all.

Coconut oil is great for suffocating them and makes combing out easy just don't wet the hair when you first shampoo it makes it easier to get the oil out

I’ve gone with @meglettheseconds suggestion of chucking it on and hoping for the best until morning. I am going to have to take a few hours off work and get me and the dc treated then take them into school a bit late. Or maybe not at all. Yuck, I feel itchier just knowing that the nasty little critters are there. (Nits, not the children, honest)

OMG bringing back the most terrible memories for me I kept scratching while I was a student for months on end and I never knew. My head was walking I had to cut my bum length hair. You have my sincere sympathy it's a funny story now, but I was horrified
