Are there any extroverts on MN? Or at least any ambiverts?

Just that really. Sometimes I do wonder. Because everyone claims to be an introvert. To be fair, that's true of most social media.

Hadn't seen your post, @Hardbackwriter. It's terribly annoying that everything now has to be one or the other, black or white. It's like living in a world run by 5-year-olds.

Before circumstances trammelled me, I was definitely an extrovert who's also perfectly happy with her own company. Lots of people are like that, lots more are sociable introverts.

But I love playing with a new word, so I'm going with ambivert!

Yes, it is annoying, I'd have thought the pandemic would have been a really useful experience to illustrate this to people - we all DO need time alone to recharge, but I was going nuts during lockdown whereas DH was perfectly happy and wished it could have been like that all the time!

I’d describe myself as ambivert but genetically I’m an extrovert.

My ideal days are about 50:50 solitude and social interaction.

MichaelAndEagle · 08/06/2023 09:04

I always come up as introvert on the tests but only just.
I hated lockdown, I hate working from home.... so I think I am more an extrovert actually.
I'm probably on the cusp!

Vulpe · 08/06/2023 09:08

I didn’t need to spit into a tube to know these things about myself but it’s interesting to see a genetic basis for behavioural stuff. Obviously the environment is really running the show in some instances.

I guess I'm what you'd call an ambivert - I thrive in social situations but I also find it draining and need my own space and time to recharge afterwards

MichaelAndEagle · 08/06/2023 09:10

One of my favourite ways to recharge is being on my own in a busy place...a busy coffee shop, a busy shopping centre.
I like being around people but with no demands on me for conversation etc.
More than a day alone and I get lonely and flat.
And yet myers briggs still puts me at introvert. I don't believe it!!

I went on a leadership training thing last year where you get a profile done. According to that, I’m an extrovert and lead with red energy 🤷‍♀️

I think the vast majority of people, as with most things in life, fall within a bell curve. True introversion or extraversion is vanishingly rare.

I'm not particularly mad on enormous crowds of strangers (large-scale concerts or sporting events, for examples), but I love parties and get-togethers and meeting new people and will happily talk to anybody.

I'm also very comfortable in my own company and can cheerfully spend hours in silence.

I’m an extrovert. Can talk the hind leg off a donkey.

That's not what an extrovertert is...

Scalottia · 08/06/2023 09:55

Bloody hell lol *extrovert. Can I type today?

CurlewKate · 08/06/2023 10:00

There is a definite pecking order on Mumsnet, with MILs, extroverts and "first wives" at the bottom! 🤣🤣

MichaelAndEagle · 08/06/2023 11:55

I definitely felt like 'needing to be around people' was an example of being very weak minded and inferior when voicing concerns during the pandemic.
It was underplayed as a human need for many.

Discoverysnakes · 08/06/2023 12:18

I’m an extrovert - I’ve noticed how much more energised I feel after my 2 days a week in the office ( even if it feels like a drag initially to go in!).

Have an operation coming up where I will be housebound for several weeks and dreading it as I know my mood will lower ( and the weird thing is it’s then as if I forget how much I enjoy seeing people and retreat).
