Thinking of treating myself. Something I never do. Not sure where to start with jewellery as I usually just buy the cheap high street jewellery for a couple of quid but would like to invest in something with a bit more longevity/quality. This is a really expensive purchase for me (I can afford it but just find it hard to buy nice things for myself as I always get mum guilt and feel like I should just spend it on DC instead as I don't really NEED it)

I know some people spend thousands in comparison to how much these cost but just kind of looking for opinions whether this is a good price to pay for something a little nicer than asda/peacocks store jewellery but not as flashy as a Rolex of course... or suggestions if you know of any cute boutiques with similar items for a lower price

The watch is a lovely classic shape - it'll look good for years imo.

I love a tennis bracelet! If you're after one that is similar to that one, I'd actually recommend Astrid and Miyu - I bought one from there for my sister which was about £50ish, it looks fab and has lasted really well (and she's not particularly careful with her things!). For the price point it's fab I think, looks lovely when worn and it's just pretty with everything she pairs it with.

The bracelet, no, because I’d have no where to wear it and it would literally be caked with horse shit in a day. My rings look bad enough.

I actually quite like the watch though and if i didn’t wear a sports watch all the time, I would get something similar.

I have this in a different colour and love it (similar to the bracelet idea if you want a comparison) and my dd also has one as she loved mine. Bonus as there's a sale!

If longeivity is important you could consider solid silver and unplated steel as an alternative to gold vermeil/gold plate which will wear over time, depending on the thickness of the plate, if it's exposed to liquids and how it's stored.

cocksstrideintheevening · 07/06/2023 21:39

I don't like yellow gold so no but if they were silver I would. I've just night myself a tennis bracelet, it was £150 and I haven't taken it off since I got it. Am also mostly covered in horse each day but it's standing up to it.

Indoorcatmum · 07/06/2023 21:42

Unfortunately that setting type on bracelets makes it easier to lose stones unless you are quite careful. It depends whether you want a daily bracelet or one for special occasionsns.

Vermeil never lasts on me... I get maybe 6 months before it starts going bad, so I personally would say no to both.

I would save up and wait and get a solid gold or alternatively steel or silver as PP mentioned :)

You shouldn't feel guilty though, you deserve nice things. Happy mum, happy kids!

If you like gold, spend a little more and buy yourself a real gold bracelet that you can wear every day, if you want to, with almost any outfit you have. That tennis bracelet looks like cheap costume jewelry and it's really not very practical.

purplecorkheart · 07/06/2023 21:49

I have a cool skin tone so tend to avoid yellow gold. If you look at my wrist my veins tend to look blue which is a sign of a cool skin tone and silver looks much better on me. I am also a Winter in clothing colours which is also cool shades.

It is really worth doing a bit of research. Tiktok and Instagram have some really good clips.
I have been gifted some beautiful gold jewellery but they do not suit my cool skin tone. They look stunning on my Mom who has a warm skin tone but my silver jewellery do not suit her.

marshamarshmallow · 07/06/2023 22:07

I usually really love tennis bracelets but dislike that one due to the gold. Hate the watch, it looks cheap.

If the combined total is your budget, it would be better spent on one good quality item.

caringcarer · 07/06/2023 22:38

OP I have lost just over 2 stone so I decided to treat myself to a bracelet. I got a 9 carat gold bracelet with large Topaz stones all around it. I got this on eBay. It was pre-used but looks stunning and it has a safety catch. It cost £565 and I got the seller to reduce it from £650 so I thought I did well. Could you look on eBay and find a 9 carat gold tennis bracelet? I have seen some there.

GeraltsBathtub · 07/06/2023 22:53

Personally I would not buy those exact items because gold doesn’t suit my colouring and I prefer a watch with numbers on the dial. The bracelet seems like reasonable value but as others have pointed out, it is vermeil rather than solid gold (essentially a layer of gold over another metal) and the vermeil will eventually wear off so not ideal if you are looking for a lifetime piece.

In terms of other midrange places to look maybe Monica Vinader, Edge of Ember or Hot Diamonds for jewellery? Lisa Angel has sterling silver jewellery for even cheaper but iirc not gold. You could also look on Etsy. Fossil or Olivia Burton have a fair few watches for around the £100 mark.

EyelessArseFace · 07/06/2023 22:57

The watch is nice. I had a lovely gold plated watch for my 21st, but unfortunately after several years the gold plate started to wear off. It wasn't cheap either, it was over £100 several decades ago. I was most aggrieved.

Fireroselily · 08/06/2023 08:32

Thank you all for the suggestions! I prefer yellow gold for my skin tone and not really looking for a lifetime piece, just something to at least last a year or a couple lol so I'm aware that the gold plated will fade over time but again, thank you for the advice and recommendations, I now have some lovely retailers to check out x

Check out www.louisewade.com
She does her ranges solid gold and gold (and silver). Lots of gorgeous goodies if you want to treat yourself.

mondaytosunday · 08/06/2023 09:05

I think the watch would wear over time. The tennis bracelet is not my thing at all but it's a classic so I'd go for that.
