Is this an awfully unhealthy diet or can I improve it

Breakfast 2 weatabix
snack quavers and some melon
lunch flat bread and humus
snack carrot sticks half a small homemade flap jack handful of popcorn
dinner sausages potato’s corn
if I’m hungry later I’ll have some yogurt pot thing
also had a large Coke Zero

I’m not good with textures of food and am limited to what veg I will eat I’m currently calorie counting but it’s harder as I don’t eat a lot of veg or salad

Seems alright to me, being really picky you could up fruit and veg if you want, but it's not like you're eating a bacon sandwich for breakfast, pizza for lunch and fried chicken for dinner!

Dacadactyl · 07/06/2023 19:30

It can be massively improved tbh. However if you are fussy, then not easily and as a PP says it's not the worst diet you could be having.

The flatbread (if it has more than about 5/6 ingredients), weetabix, quavers, sausages, potatoes, corn, yogurt (unless plain greek yoghurt) and coke would be cut out of my diet and only eaten very occasionally/never. But it depends what your goals are and why you're asking tbh.

Weal · 07/06/2023 19:33

What is considered healthy is relative isn’t it. I’m sure your diet is much better than some, but not as good as others.

Personally I’d cut out the crisps. They tend to not be very filling and also aren’t great health wise.

Also I’d up the fruit and veg a little to make it healthier. I’m not a big fan of veg so I have to find interetsing ways of having it eg asparagus with Parmesan, salad with feta

What sort of potato?
Quite a bit of processed stuff considering the little you eat but, if you are calorie counting, then flapjack probably isn’t the best as they are full of fat & sugar.

TwinkleTwinkleLittleCat · 07/06/2023 19:47

I've lost over 2 stone since Xmas. This is what I eat:
Breakfast; eggs, omelette, boiled, poached.
Sometimes with bacon and mushrooms
Lunch; nothing as I'm still full from protein at breakfast.
I have a coffee with MCT oil mid afternoon
Dinner; choice of fish, rice, salad, meat, veg or more egg.
Full fat Greek yogurt with berries and honey.
I'm honestly never hungry, stopped sugar in coffee and don't crave sweets anymore.

Keitharingsbitch · 07/06/2023 19:49

Is this an example of what you eat daily? I'd find it boring and I'd add a bit more veg and maybe fruit. Plus more treats but I think it's fine! Certainly not hugely unhealthy.

Floralnomad · 07/06/2023 19:52

I’d cut out the snacks , why do you need to snack between all your meals .

kippymcquick · 07/06/2023 19:52

@TwinkleTwinkleLittleCat keto is a great way to lose weight. I'm currently trying to fast and incorporate low carb foods. I've lost 5 in 2weeks

Mamiamamia · 07/06/2023 19:55

It is a lot of ultra processed foods, it could be made a lot healthier by replacing them with unprocessed whole foods.

TwinkleTwinkleLittleCat · 07/06/2023 19:57

@kippymcquick I love it! I was so addicted to sugar but I feel great now. I still have the occasional sourdough bread but have it in the second part of the day, the carbs then help sleep.

There are only 2 items in the list that would meet that criteria, quavers and sausages.

So not a lot at all.

Snacks are perfectly normal

Hollyppp · 07/06/2023 20:05

There’s no green veg at all.

I think you need to ‘eat the rainbow’ to have a good diet eg add some broccoli in?
I get that spinach can taste bitter etc but can you try to find a green veg you can eat to add in.

LaDamaDeElche · 07/06/2023 20:07

Yeah, that's not great to be honest. You need to add more of a variety of veg, also things like couscous, quinoa, chickpeas, edamame beans, cereals, better fruit, nuts for snacks, fish, lean meat. If you're trying to eat healthier there are much better foods that will leave you feeling fuller for longer. That's a

LaDamaDeElche · 07/06/2023 20:09

Sorry, posted too soon - That's a days food that would leave me hungry. Start with breakfast - change weetabix on some days for porridge and blueberries, peanut butter on toast or muesli with kefir and raspberries.

ItsCalledAConversation · 07/06/2023 20:10

It looks like a lot of carbs to me - carbs at each meal is too much unless you’re doing shit loads of heavy exercise. Two weetabix, flatbread, flapjack, potatoes - reduce your carbs and bulk up with green veg and pulses/beans instead.

SummerSimmer · 07/06/2023 20:11

Could you add more protein to
your meals and eat more fruit if you don’t like any veg?

SimplyTurquoise · 07/06/2023 20:16

I agree with others that generally it’s too much carbs (that’ll make your hungrier), not enough protein or fruit- eg. However this all really depends on your size, weight, exercise levels, goals etc.

Coke, flatbread, weetabix are all ultra processed.

bellac11 · 07/06/2023 20:38

I missed the coke but she hasnt said what flatbread it is and flatbread and weetabix are not ultra processed. They are processed.

Keitharingsbitch · 07/06/2023 20:42

I know it's sometimes hard to understand not everyone thinks what you think. But not everyone has been taken in by the latest anti ultra processed food fad and cares about this.

Happynappys · 07/06/2023 23:45

Sorry forgot to say it was Greek yogurt and homemade flat breads just flour oil and water the potatoes were some crushed new potatoes. I do eat protein porridge and some green veg but it’s very limited due to the taste and texture. I also didn’t put in the full amount of sugar in my flap jack. I don’t drink alcohol or tea/ coffee so I do have a Coke Zero every day. These last two years I’ve started again trying different veg every time I can but with out much success I can now eat broccoli, peas, carrots, corn, potatoes, cauliflower, tomatoes if there cooked in something. I will eat lots of fruit though. This was only one day of what I eat yesterday I had fish and veg for dinner pasta Salad with carrot sticks for lunch and porridge for breakfast along with some popcorn and chocolate raisins for a snack

Happynappys · 07/06/2023 23:46

I actually get very frustrated at what veg I will eat I want to eat more and constantly cook veg in different ways but I just can’t stand the texture or taste

OP posts:
Hollyppp · 08/06/2023 22:43

It’s great you can eat broccoli. I think you need to be having that daily as it’s your own green veg option (peas actually are a legume and not comparable for green veg nutritional value).
