Eurocamp

Morning everyone,

I've seen Eurocamp pop up on a couple of threads recently, I have to admit I had never heard of it before.

I had a, quick look at the site and it seems to offer a good compromise on having a holiday abroad but not breaking the bank so would like to look more into it for the four of us (kids are 6 and 8)

I was just wondering if anyone had been to a Parc before? Are they easy to get to, was the parc nice, can you do day trips outside of the site etc. Does anyone have any experience they can share some insight to? 😀

If you’re short on time, here’s a summary of the best Eurocamp sites Mumsnetters are recommending on this thread:

😎La Vallée, Normandy, France

😎La Croix de Vieux Pont, Paris

😎Des Menhirs, Brittany

😎Union Lido, Adriatic, Italy

😎Park Albatros, Tuscany

MNHQ Flowers

I have done many, many Eurocamp holidays and am currently on another.

I would recommend Berny Rivière aka La Croix du. Vieux Point in northern France, Dol de Bretagne in Brittany and St Avit Loisirs in Dordogne.

Does anyone have any recommendations for specific sites that don’t require a car?

We would be flying so would want to use public transport to get to it and would hopefully be near to maybe a beach and/or some shops too.

No particular preference on destination!

We did Marina di Venezia without a car. We got public transport (a coach) from the airport. There is/was a shuttle bus from the bus stop to the camp site, but we went at the end of the season so it had stopped. It is walkable, but as my DH had told me there was going to be a shuttle bus I was quite grumpy on arrival!
It's a huge site. Hire bikes and cycle around the lagoons. Visit Venice and explore the islands. We had a lovely holiday.

Hi OP. Been away with eurocamp twice. We travelled via plane from Northern Ireland. First time we went to Camp Bella Italia, Peschiera at Lake Garda. We got train to Venice and hired bikes to cycle round. Gardaland there aswell and able to use ferry on Lake Garda. The kids really enjoyed it and to be honest I would go back tomorrow. Also flew to Nice and travelled to La Baume camp. It was a bit further out, and as there were two families we hired a minibus type thing. Great time away both holidays and kids have fond memories of them. Would highly recommend.

cocksstrideintheevening · 07/06/2023 11:46

We did these types of holiday as a kid and for years with our own kids. We mostly used Siblu and eventually ended up buying a mobile home on one of their sites.

Kids loved it, you get more space than ina hotel room and would bring the dog.

Don't eat on site or shop on site if you can help it. If you're on a budget eat out at lunch usually much cheaper.

justprance · 07/06/2023 11:48

We eurocamp every year and have done since 2010 (bar covid obviously). Just love it. Our favorites are Bella Italia (Italy), Manor farm (Switzerland) and one in Annecy (France), I can't remember the name of.

FirstTimeNameChanger · 07/06/2023 11:49

We've done 2 in France, one in Italy. We've booked them through the sun holidays (you don't have to buy the paper!!) and it's been about £350 for a week. They are brilliant holidays. We go for day trips and explore the area we are based in, but my children would be just as happy to stay on the site and play in the pool all day! I have been impressed with the cleanliness and facilities in the caravans/ chalets.

RightWhereYouLeftMe · 07/06/2023 11:52

The parks vary because eurocamp doesn't own/run them, they rent out pitches.
We did a lot when I was a child and always had lots of days off site.
I also worked at a large one one summer when I was at uni. It was in Dordogne and the vast majority of people drove their own cars there so came across in the ferry, generally stopped for a night at another eurocamp site on the way down (often around Paris).

Des Menhirs? That's where we went last year and it was lovely! I hope you have a great time.

Yes that's the one! Oh good to hear, really looking forward to it

Whiiiissstle · 07/06/2023 12:53

Just came to see if the thread had any replies, I didn't expect so many!
Thank you for all the responses, I'm at work at the moment but will read them all when I get in 😁

Also did these types of holidays with the kids, and now we do them with the kids and grandkids.
We used to drive, but now usually some us of fly and a couple drive down with all the supplies. If they set off a day early they can set up on site and then collect from airport.
Echo praise for Bella Italia at Lake Garda - have been 3 or 4,times. Just got back from Lake Maggiore where we didn't have a car but found the public transport cheap and reliable.

turkeyboots · 07/06/2023 15:52

I did them as a child and took my own kids. We always stayed in the tents when I was little, but they do very fancy accommodation now with decks and dishwashers and air con.
It's a great holiday with small kids.

Frosty1000 · 07/06/2023 15:59

We've done eurocamp, canvas holidays and siblu over the years and absolutely loved them. Great locations, great pools and just so different from haven over here which is pretty scank imo. We've mainly done France (Vendée absolutely beautiful) and Germany (mosel valley stunning)

Also centre PARC's and the like in Europe are so much better and cheaper.

AxolotlOnions · 07/06/2023 16:50

I have done Eurocamp once but usually don't use them as they're so expensive.

foodtoorder · 07/06/2023 16:57

Also look at canvas or gustocamp for cheaper prices.
We have just got back from a very well maintained, clean, something for everyone place in Italy.
We have also been to one in Spain.
We fly from our regional airport, hire a car for transfers and for exploring.
The ones I have been to have excursions.
It is an easy holiday and relatively cheap as far as travelling goes.
Go prepared with a few self catering bits would be my one tip.

Whiiiissstle · 07/06/2023 18:11

Thanks again for all the replies, which I have now read and there has been such useful information.

Out of the two of us only I drive not DH, so in an ideal world I would like to avoid driving as I do it all the time! Also I've never driven abroad and I'm not sure if I would be a bit apprehensive about it...

Somewhere we could fly to (was previously thinking spain or italy) and either get a transfer or public transport to the site is the way I'm leaning towards at the moment, but that's not set in stone.
It would be quite nice to be able to do some day trips off site as well although I realise this means there's a lot of boxes to tick (reachable by flight +public transport, day trips possible, enough entertainment for kids, destination flexible on though)

I've made a note of companies posters have mentioned to book direct through which I'll definitely look into. 😀

If you don't want to drive and are thinking of Italy, I agree with others recommending Bella Italia. 20 mins from Verona airport (and hour and a half form Venice ) and then walking distance to Peschiera del Garda which is a really lovely town and has it's own beach on Lake Garda. Loads on site and easy access to loads off site too.

Magnalux · 07/06/2023 21:04

I’ve done loads of eurocamp holidays, weve never taken the car. Sanguli in salou is amazing..loads of pools, good evening entertainment. It’s very close to Reus airport .. 10 km roughly so we just got a taxi. A walk to the front of the site has you at the beach and a lovely walk along the seafront into town with bars restaurants along the way. There’s also a bus that goes up and down the seafront it’s € 2 one way so we’d walk to town and bus back if we very very tired, or in the opposite direction is Cambrills marina. We went twice and it’s the one everyone would go back to. There’s a tourist train also for getting around which will take you out to portavrntura theme park amoung other places, which is a brilliant day out.

Motherhubbardscupboard · 07/06/2023 21:24

As PP have said, Eurocamp doesn't have parks, they have mobile homes and tents on camp sites, there will be lots of other operators at the campsite too, and usually the sites also have their own accommodation you can book direct. I'd recommend looking at canvas holidays, who are now part of the vacances soleil group, a really large network. Eurocamp themselves don't tend to be the best value. I also second the recommendation for the Venice campsites if you don't have a car. That's the only time I have gone without a car. Whilst the sites have pools and kids play areas, and often a low key kids club, it's not like Butlins or Center Parcs so you would want to be able to leave the site.

Whiiiissstle · 07/06/2023 21:28

Great recommendations there, I will look into them, thank you!

We used to do canvas holidays (like euro camp) when ours were little. We had brilliant memorable holidays.

Treat the journey as an adventure and part of the fun.

Stomacharmeleon · 07/06/2023 22:00

Has anyone done any of the French ones with a dog? Are they hound friendly? Was thinking eurotunnel over (she is a needy pug so Dover- Calais ferry is out.

I think whether they allow dogs is based on the campsites individually - eurocamp allows them if the campsite does I believe.

I'm going to look more into different recommendations over the weekend, however, I did notice Bella Itallia mentioned a few times and see it can be done without a car (woo hoo!) And quite like the idea of Italy.

Can anyone tell me who they booked directly through if they did it that way, and how they travelled? Was it fairly straightforward and easy or do you think taking or hiring a car at the other end would have made it far easier?
I don't mind having to faf about with public transport a bit if it gets me off the hook driving haha. However would consider having a car if it was a big benefit.
I think these were the posters that mentioned Italy/ Bella Itallia but if anyone has any advice its all greatly appreciated!

We went to Carnac last year and it was great. We had a basic caravan - try to get a better one than the basic if possible

Whiiiissstle · 08/06/2023 07:32

@bluemoonswoon was carnac able to be done without a car and did you book directly? 😊it's another place that's been mentioned a few times on the thread so will look into it.
