I do nc but haven't for a while and kept this name as I know this is prime troll topic. Please feel free to report, it just isn't an irl topic I could talk about.

I had one delivered today because I'm going on holiday next month and as I'm fat I don't think norethisterone will be prescribed. Day 2 and I'm heavy. I've read you should twist it when it is in, how?
I can feel it, not like a tampon but still know it is there and I've cut almost all the tail off, is this normal? I can't use tampons so this is a little better
Can I leave it in overnight?
How did you cope in public toilets, I can't seem to put it in when dressed.
Did anyone else feel a bit...ick, not at the blood or anything I don't have shame but at the physicality of it.

I guess I now know why no replies. Any self respecting woman wouldn't do this. Mainly feels like I've birthed a bowling ball, everything feels like sandpaper

I've used a mooncup for 12 years and will never go back to tampons.

I find that inserting it when I'm in the shower is helpful, failing that, fixing it an initial rinse under warm water to soften the silicone cup.

Have you followed the instructions? It suggests to 'fold' the cup by squeezing it between your fingers (so that it's almost S shaped) will make it easier to insert.

I either lift put one leg up on something higher or I insert it whilst sat on loo. It'll open when it's in the right place. If you can feel the stem, you probably need to cut it more.

Pressed send too soon.

I wear mine overnight but will include a pad if I'm heavy. The silicone means that you don't have to worry about toxic shock syndrome as with tampons.

Public toilets can be a pain but I head to somewhere with the sink included in the cubicles, empty the contents in the loo, then rinse in the sink before inserting again.

It's a hands on approach to menstruation - you need to get pretty hands on with your own body but you get very used to it.

I'll never go back ti anything else. I don't get the same period pains or discomfort with the moon cups. I feel so much better and lots more hygienic and more protected.

I cut the stem right down to be level with the bowl of the cup.
You can sleep over night in it. Just empty and rinse before going to bed.
On heavier days, I only empty and rinse when I get up in the morning, at some point early afternoon and just before bed.
You don't need to twist after putting it in, if you run your finger around the rim and it's popped open OK, no twisting is needed. If it feels skew wiff, try gently turning it, just a tiny bit until its opened up properly.
Try not to footer about with it once it's in because I remember it caused some discomfort when I did.
If you need to empty it when you're out and about, just give it a wipe with loo roll after emptying it, unless you have a cubicle with a sink.
Been using a moon up for years and I found it slightly yucky, but only for about the first month.
Stick with it, it does get easier.

For public toilets you can’t always find one with a sink in the cubicle so you need to have wet wipes / bottle of water. I always have a spare moon cup in my bag too on a really heavy day as I’m worried I might drop it down the toilet or on the floor!

Iheartsummertime · 07/06/2023 23:17

You shouldn't be able to feel it. Try inserting it higher up.
They take a bit of getting used to (3 periods typically) but are great when you get the hang of it.
You can cut all the tail off.
You can wear overnight.

I can't get in with them or tampons since having Dts. I can always feel a dragging sensation.

VikingLady · 07/06/2023 23:33

I cut the whole stem off so it's smooth. And it needs to be a lot higher than you'd think - I fit mine over my cervix.

I do it on the toilet, since sitting like that shortens and widens your vagina so it's easier to furtle around in there. Plus any drops go straight down the loo.

Depending on how heavy your flow is you might get away with not changing it in a public loo. They hold a fair amount. But when I need to, I use the disabled/accessible toilet, since you want to be able to clean your fingers before you pull your pants back up 😁

Good luck. I find them genuinely easier now.

Mooncups are amazing!

Personally I find that squatting is the easiest way to insert it, my friend who also uses a cup finds a leg up on the toilet easier. There’s a knack to it and after a few go’s you get it and you won’t think about it again. If you aren’t sure it it’s in right you can twist it by gently pressing the bottom turning it, if it turns easily it’s in, or as another poster said just run your finger around it, if there are no ‘bumps’ (not the word I want but not sure how else to describe it) then It’s in.

My flow isn’t especially heavy so I empty it in the morning and evening, because of that I’ve not had to deal much with public toilets but if you can find a family toilet (the big cubicle with toilet, sink and usually a baby changing/feeding area) use that.

When I first started using it I didn’t wear it overnight, although I do now, and doubled up with a pad because I had ‘the fear’ of leaking but I’ve never had any problems, after years of struggling with leaking tampons and pads that moved and were never in the right place. Switching was the best thing I’ve ever done.

It's not high enough perhaps?
